The End
Sunny Gan
This first semester has really taught me a lot. As a writer I can see that I have improved a lot. In the beginning I had trouble meeting the minimum length requirements and trouble analyzing and digging deeper into quotes. I am most proud of my 3rd assignment. It was my first time writing that many pages and im proud of myself for reaching that length. Even though this was my proudest piece of work, it was also the one I had most difficulty with. It was very time consuming and I couldn’t really find quotes that worked well with the structure I wanted. I still struggle with the length requirement and analysis part of writing.
One discussion that really stuck with me was that I create my own identity. The things I do and the things people think isn’t who I am. My identity as a student has shifted and changed a tremendous amount in a good way.
It is now the end of the semester and I have really grown as a student. I was slacking and now i realise that college requires 100% of my effort. The most difficult part was to time manage everything going on. There were so many deadlines and tests, my brain was frying. It surprised me a lot when I saw the amount of work that needed to be put in, my high school never gave me this much work. In the beginning of the semester I really thought I was going to get by with a breeze, but no. I had to put in a lot of effort even though im really lazy and procrastinate a lot.

Having a culture with peers is one of the most important things in a friendship. It’s something that connects us together. One culture that me and my friends connect through is handball. It’s a sport that we all love and bonded our friendship with. Handball is a culture that taught us lessons in life, like not being able to win everything and that life has its loses. Handball is just a sport but it became a everyday activity for us in high school and it was how I made most of my friends. It was all we talked about in and outside of school. The handball culture felt more like a brotherhood to us, a community where we always had a person to go to.

Gun violence is a major issue in our world today. From what i have learned guns are really easy to acquire without background checks. Each year around 36 thousand Americans die from gun violence and this needs to stop. This year alone we have had many mass shootings and its getting worse and worse. These numbers keep rising because the government wont do anything about fixing the problem. Our gun control is so bad to the point people think any loud bang is a gun shot. People do not feel safe in their own neighborhood. The US has gun control, these laws are there to maintain the sale of guns so people can be safe but what its really doing is letting people buy more and more guns for hate reasons. The second amendment is not a right that lets you own unlimited amount of guns but some people have plenty. These gun are being used for hate more than it is for safety reasons. Other countries have more gun control than the US which is a reason our death rates are so high, the US needs to learn from these other countries and establish better laws for guns.

Immigration, everyone has family that are immigrants. This topic is important to me because my grandparents came from china as immigrants so my parents can achieve the american dream. This article shows that people can now get green card pretty easily unlike the past. My grandparents used to explain how they tried very hard to claim a green card, it took a long process. This is also important to me because seeing immigrants trying to have a life in america without a green card is very hard.

My Approach to Writing
So writing is a big part of school and most of the times i have trouble with the topics. It takes me a long time to brainstorm my ideas and the outline of the paper in my head. Over time I’ve realized that my best work comes out under pressure. Whenever I think about the ideas I have for the topic I always end up changing it non stop. While under pressure I stick with 1 idea and everything starts flooding in for the paper. I always review my work at the last minute for mistakes, I try not to do that but its a habit. My first drafts are always really bad and need revision. I can always fix a paper but not a house once its built which is what George was talking about.

What’s hidden?
This photo was taken during the summer SEEK Social Identity class. It shows many of the things I hide in my life that I don’t really show to people. In the background I have a camera, volleyball, shoe box and my computer. Many of these things I hide because i’m secretive. In this picture you can also see that I a smiling but in reality I don’t smile and have the whatever attitude in life. I’ve always wanted to be a photographer which is my dream but i’m not pursuing it for my future financial status. The volleyball in the background actually means a lot to me. I’ve met many people through volleyball who I consider family at this point of my life. One thing most people don’t know about me is that i’m into shoes. Selling shoes has been my main source of money for the past 4 years of my life and don’t know what i’ll do without this hobby. In the background it shows my high end computer that i built from scratch. I would say that i’m really good in technology and its something I hide.
