WHY DID WE STOP TALKING ABOUT GUNS?
In the past few months media started to talk less about guns and instead the topic of climate change has been all over the media and social media. The legislative and the NRA are hiding behind the spotlight of climate change. However, we should not forget about about gun control. It is as important as saving our planet because both issues affects the future generation. This future generation includes us.
In the article called “In Florida, Push for Strict New Gun Ban,” published in The Wall Street Journal by Arian Campo-Flores and Zusha Elinson, talks about how Florida which is a Republican state is putting tons of pressure on banning semiautomatic riffles. Flores and Ellison state that people do not need to have large guns in order protect themselves. They bring in the statistics from the mass shootings in 2018. Thus, showing how the increase of guns have also increased shootings.
The publishing of this article is really important because, people stopped talking about guns and it is allowing companies like NRA and the president to keep the same legislative and make it about business instead of the people. The media needs to cover more stories about guns so that both climate change and gun control can be the main focus and pressure the people on the top to change policies and laws.

To be Impeached, or not to be?- Nour Hachi
This article is about the impeachment inquiry announced by the speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi. This decision was made because of President Donald Trump asking the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to investigate Democratic candidate, Joe Biden and his son. This is a problem because President Trump is involving a foreign country into American affairs. Many are saying the President abused his power and needs to face some type of consequences. What makes this particularly interesting is that even Republicans condemn the Presidents actions. This is important because this will potentially affect the upcoming elections in 2020, especially on how we decide on who to vote for since we are now of age to do so.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2019/09/25/glacier-alps-might-collapse-thanks-global-warming-officials-say/
People keep trying to play off global warming like its not real, when in reality it affects us everyday. Glaciers are melting and the water levels are rising. If we keep this up how much longer does this planet have. Instead of saying its not real or its not our problem we have to make a change because it is real and it impacts how long we can live on earth. Polar bears and other animals in the arctic are dying and running out of room to live because the glaciers are melting. The glacier melted with no warning signs and happened out of no where and thats how global warming will hit us if we don’t change our ways. With the direction were moving in glacier will continue to melt and the water levels will just raise and the earth will continue to heat up. Also floods, avalanches, and much more are likely to happen. Small glaciers are expected to lose 80% of their ice mass by 2100. This shows why we need to make a change now because if we lose this alone it will only get worse and worse from here. Thats why instead of ignoring it we have to educate everyone on it so we can make a change before its to late.

My thoughts: HRVOF
I own a few hundred shares in this company and personally think it will either preform quite well over the next few months or be bought out by a bigger player in the cannabis market. The company Harvest One Cannabis was the first cannabis stock I purchased and during the first few months had been doing very well. It is only until recently that the stock price did not match the companies performance level. As of today the price is $0.35 and it is severely undervalued. The company so far has been expanding through acquiring facilities and brands like Dream Water which is carried in a plethora of stores worldwide including 7/11 and Walmart in America. Not only on the business side but in management as well, recently adding Andy Bayfield who has worked previously with brands like Cocoa Cola, Cadbury, and Dr. Pepper. This is a great move because adding someone such as Mr. Bayfield to the team means for better products (being that he had a background on consumer packaged goods). Harvest One is a great company and I know it is very much undervalued at this point which is why it is my biggest investment. Over the few months I had owned shares they were able to reach the goals they set for this year and even surpassed a few of them. My estimate is that in a few months it would be able to recover or at least begin a reversal period. However this could also be next week (a young company such as this one) is very unpredictable. This company should be valued at least at the $1.50 -$2 range. This range is about 5 times the current stock price but it is one of the few cannabis companies doing CONSITENTLY well and very much deserves a higher stock price.

Over the summer mental health was one of the most talked about topic in the SEEK Program. We were taught that we must take care of what is within and protect our hearts. I am still amazed that even though I knew what mental health meant, I didn’t know if I was mentally healthy or how can I have a balanced mental state. I also realized that it is important to take care of oneself and become aware of what is hurting our mental health.
In this article, students express the need for days off from school for their mental health. I found it fascinating that 2 states passed a law that allows students to take days off for their own sake of health. I personally think that more than 2 states should already have passed this law. Students were also able to express in this article that depression is real and it comes mostly from the pressure from school or becoming so stressed that they don’t know how to deal with it. In my life school is one of the biggest stressors and it affects my aura overall. Having days off for one’s mental health would definitely benefit so many students. I also believe this will lower the chances of a student suiciding.

Article That I read that was really interesting.
In the Article “The Case for Reparations” by Ta-Nehisi Coates, he speaks on the reparations African-American deserve. In other words Afro- Americans need payment for everything that they’ve gone through throughout history. Such as many years of slavery, many years of segregation, and many years of abuse. He believes that the nation owes the African-American for many years of abuse. Which is something I agree with because after the 13th amendment, discrimination against afro-americans became very popular and KKK advocates began to rise and many death out of hate began to rise as well and nothing was being done to fix these issues. Civil rights leaders like Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr were murdered just because they wanted to see equality in between races in America. Ever since the 13th amendment the abolishment of slavery; afro-americans should’ve stopped being viewed as animals but as humans with blood and flesh. Instead they were judged by the color of their skin and not their character. Their lives were taken away due to the simple fact that they had more melanin then others. So what race deserves reparations in this country? I say African-Americans.

Blog Post #2 Lauren Flores
I consider myself a femenist because I believe that women and men should be treated the same but also that no gender is inferior to the other. The New York Times article This is an Article About Women by Nicola Pardy the author talks about how in recent history society has been putting catch phrases about gender equality on clothes and other things but now we simply put the word Women on clothes and other things. I believe that if stating your gender is important you should do it, I don’t think that simply stating your gender should be your best attempt to obtain gender equality. Even though to some people who are cisgender stating you are a women is not difficult for other people who are not cisgender women it is really impactful to state you identify as a women because you are in danger of peoples response to that.
When Pardy talks about the shirts I giggled because they are things that I say. When having conversations with my brother he can be annoyed because he thinks that women and men do not have inequality but I do not just state I am a woman I also state why it is I am a feminist woman. I do contest people’s opinions all the time and I love hearing opinions of others because I think that is the way we truly grow our mindsets. This article can reveal my character because it is the way I feel about a specific issue (feminism) but also because it demonstrates the way I would approach a different opinion, with respect.
This is the article I reference: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/26/opinion/women-feminist-tshirts.html

Global warming has been an ongoing issue since the mid-20th century when scientist began to notice an increase in greenhouse gas effect; the result of heat radiating from the Earth, trapped into the atmosphere with no escape. In recent years, the world has started to show major changes in rise in temperature and it’s not going to come to a halt any time soon. With each summer being hotter than the last, and a rapid increase in melting glaciers, we can’t turn a blind eye into the matter. I think that the world, especially the United States, needs to take action immediately, after all we don’t have that much time left before it’s too late to reverse the problem. Besides, if we all just collaborated together to reverse this change, it would literally make the biggest difference in the world. According to the National Climate Assessment, “human influences are the number one cause of global warming, especially the carbon pollution we cause by burning fossil fuels and the pollution-capturing we prevent by destroying forests.” This warming is disturbing Mother Nature’s climate from it’s land to the oceans and at the same time it is destroying ecosystems all around. Personally, the reason I find this topic worth discussing about and very important in my opinion is simple: I want a world for my children and for other future generations to live in. But with so little time left to reverse the matter, I ask myself if I even have time left before we’re severely exposed to “The carbon dioxide, methane, soot, and other pollutants we release into the atmosphere…” Even right now, “hundreds of heat-related deaths occur each year due to direct impacts and the indirect effects of heat-exacerbated, life-threatening illnesses, such as heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and cardiovascular and kidney diseases” and this is all happening within the United States. It’s crazy to think that you’re more likely to die from a heat stroke in the U.S. than from a hurricane, tornado, flood or lightening. Literally nothing else matters if we don’t have a world to live in and I might be going all over the place with this topic but I cannot stress this enough. So don’t ignore the issue and act like you’re immune to it because it’s affecting you more than you think, and that’s not fake news.

Mass shootings in the United States have become an issue at its peak with nothing changing because of it. Many people have lost their lives because of these shootings and all anyone can really do is “pray” for those who lost their lives. Praying isn’t just enough. Change is needed in order for these shootings to stop. I chose this topic because it’s something that can happen anytime and anywhere. Especially living in NYC, we are targeted almost everyday and is vulnerable for things like this to happen. It only takes a couple of minutes to kill many people. According to the article, so far we’ve had 19 mass shootings so far in the United States. Almost averaging a mass shooting every 2 weeks. Change in laws and gun license is needed in order for things like this to stop.
