Introductory Post – Radiya Sharif

My name is Radiya Sharif, and my pronouns are they/them. I was born and raised in Queens, but I moved houses often when I was younger. Some other basic facts about me are that I am eighteen years old, my birthday is June 27, and my family is from Bangladesh. My interests include psychology, linguistics, English, and learning languages. I like all of these because they all share one thing in common—they help me understand people better because I tend to be socially awkward otherwise. My main hobbies are writing, creating art, and listening to music. My favorite artists at the moment are Enhypen, Atarashii Gakko, Sabrina Carpenter, Twice, and Niki. Some micro-hobbies of mine include photography, badminton, and cooking. I want to learn how to crochet, make bracelets, and play the electric guitar. I am majoring in psychology because I have loved it ever since middle school where I realized that I wanted to be a resource for people who need it, so their mental health doesn’t end up as neglected as mine was/still is. On a similar note, I really like helping people—my MBTI type is INFP, otherwise known as the mediator, and I also worked at a daycare for my summer job. I want to become a psychiatrist after I graduate.

I took this photo on my second day of college (July 6, 2022). I was taking the train home with my dad that day because he was teaching me the route to and from campus that week. The time was 2:22pm, and I quickly took a photo for good luck. I’m not much of a believer in angel numbers, but this number showed up around me very frequently around that period. If you see a lot of 222’s, it means that good things are to come & that you’ll grow with enough perseverance.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Ryan Kamal. My pronouns are he/him/his. I am from Pakistan and I’m Muslim. I was born and raised in the North Bronx, and I live there as well. I am seventeen years old. I am the oldest of three siblings, my little sister is eight and my little brother is sixteen. I may transfer from Baruch in the future but as of now, I am planning on staying. My major is Biology but I may change it to business or finance. My favorite subject is Science because it is the most interesting out of the rest of the subjects. I played football my whole life but I recently got into volleyball over quarantine. I like to work out, cook, and explore nature in my free time. A fun fact about me is that my name was supposed to be Rayyan but my parents had no clue how to spell so they put my name as Ryan. So even though I may sound uncultured, I promise I’m not. The picture I chose is of the mecca. It is located in Saudi Arabia. It is the most holy muslim city and holds a lot of significance in Islam. This picture means a lot to me because I will be going there soon and religion has been a part of my life that my parents and family put the most emphasis on. Islamic studies and practices have shaped me into who I am today, how I think, and act. Without my religion, I would be on the wrong path so I thank my parents for making religion a top priority and instilling the values of it when I was young so they sticked with me into my adolecense and hopefully my adult years. I hope to have an amazing and enriching experience in this class with you all. https://www.google.com/search?q=mecca&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS949US949&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwisg6ed9vv5AhU7MlkFHZiNA0gQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1366&bih=649&dpr=1#imgrc=q6dmb1oYUFjGiM

Introduction- Ricardo Bogota (Rico)

Hello, I am Ricardo. Feel free to call me Rico if you want to, my nickname has been starting to become more popular than my government name. I am from Elmhurst, Queens. I grew up there my whole life, that’s where I made most of my friends and made most of my memories. I am a Colombian American, it took me a while to come to terms with my roots since I was brainwashed with the “Americanized” mentality so I am still in the process of embracing my Colombian side but have made good progress. The college life here at Baruch has been very different but something I was very looking forward to. I wanted to meet new people and make new friends which I feel like I have done so far and looking to keep going. I am very social. I love talking to people a lot. I feel like I am an all around cool and down to earth person with a good sense of humor and very understanding with one another. which is why I chose my major as Psychology because of my ability and my mindset to formulate with other individuals. I am confident I can do it pretty well but can use some improvements. My main hobbies right now is I play basketball a lot, so through my life I played a lot of sports but when I picked up a basketball I automatically fell in love and told myself I wanna play at a high level such as college-pro level, I take this as a big part of my identity because it’s what I do, it’s my life right now I love doing it a lot and I am looking on to getting 1% better every day. Basketball is what created me today because it has kept me on the right path, motivated me to be good in school, create good habits for myself on and off the court and overall be a good human being.

I choose this picture because it gives me a self visualization of how far I have come as a overall person, and remember how I used to be in the past and where I am currently at now, and I am truly blessed and appreciate all those times where I felt like I couldn’t become the person I wanted to be, a self improved man.

Introductory- Janiel

Hello, my name is Janiel. I am 18 and Dominican and live in the Heights. I’m very nervous about starting my college experience, especially since I am not sure on what I want to major on. As of right now my main focus is to get good grades in all my classes so I can maintain it when I do decide what to major in. Other than being nervous, I am also very excited to get to know new people. I would say I am very introverted and it is especially hard to get me loose around people who I am not used to, but I came into college telling myself I am going to try and meet new people.

My biggest hobby/interest is football. My interest in football was spiked because I loved the idea of wrestling and catching. As a kid I used to go up to all my cousins and we would wrestle. I also used to have an obsession with the WWE and I used to love John Cena. I got the catching from baseball because I found it to be challenging in a relaxing way. When I first found out about football I realized the aspects that I liked about both of these things were in football. 8 years later, I appreciate and will forever appreciate football for all the lessons I’ve learned from it. Even now, I still play flag football although I prefer tackle football. Some other notable hobbies of mine would be watching anime, and hanging out with friends.

This is a picture of me and my close friends at a park. This picture means a lot to me because it reminds me that I am blessed to have people around me and that I am not alone. I’m looking forward to meeting more people at Baruch.

Introduction

My name is Karla and my pronouns are she/her. Before coming to Baruch I was thinking of majoring in finance but now Im thinking of majoring in marketing. Some of my favorite sports include volleyball and tennis. I also like watching soccer games whether it’d be on tv or at the pier’s that are by the Brooklyn bridge. Some other things that I like include Italian food but sometimes I’m picky when it comes to trying new foods. I consider myself as a helpful person because I like doing acts of service and just helping in any way I can. I would also say that I’m an introvert because I’m somewhat social and other times I’m not. A favorite hobby of mine happens to be drawing/painting because it dates back to the second grade when I discovered an interest in art. It’s always been a way in which I am able to engage with my creative side and on top of that I would find it stress relieving. Throughout my years in High school I also participated in the art program which was something I liked due to the many different projects that were assigned to us such as still-lifes, self portraits, landscape paintings..etc. During my free time I like to go out with my friends to restaurants in the city or I would also spend some quality time with my pet cockatiel’s that I’ve had almost a little over a year now…One of them is named “Capri”, and I’m very glad I decided to get him when he was just three weeks old because he keeps me company and he’s made me realize how much I should cherish my loved ones and the many things that life has to offer. The picture below is Capri and he’s going to be two by the month of April next year.
