The commercial I watched was the Super Bowl Pepsi ad with Cardi B and Steve Carell. The commercial appeals to logos through the spoken rhetoric of Steve Carell, who says, “Is Pepsi okay? Is a shooting star okay? Is the laughter of a small child okay?” He compares Pepsi to these enjoyable things to prove the logic of Pepsi being, “more than okay.” It appeals to pathos by making the audience laugh through unspoken rhetoric. Steve Carell switches outfits with the waiter in order to switch their roles. This makes it more funny to the audience since he is doing something a customer would never do all because he wants to prove how “okay” it is to have Pepsi. This commercial also appeals to ethos through the use of Steve Carell, Cardi B and Lil Jon. These are all influential celebrities that people love. Thus, this commercial appeals to ethos through unspoken rhetoric simply through the use of people with popular recognition.
I watched the Heinz commercial with dachshund dogs in a hot dog costume running towards people holding hands and dressed as Heinz condiments on a hilltop. After carefully analyzing the setting, I realized that the hilltop is meant to embody Coca-Cola’s iconic hilltop commercial from the ’70s. Which became the world’s most famous ad due to its message of being a product for the world to share. In addition to having a diverse group of people, it also symbolized world peace. I think that’s why Heinz had people dressed as different condiments, saying that if you put them all together and it would taste good and you’ll be happy. This allusion reaches for ethos because it’s channeling a message it assumes people know. And not to mention pathos for having dogs in hot dog costumes which most people will stop and think “omg how cute!”
I watched a Colgate commercial, where this guy was constantly going too close to people to prove that his toothpaste works. This commercial shows pathos when the guy keeps trying to get close to people and prove he has nice breath, Ethos is shown when they reveal the toothpaste Colgate, and when he talks about to the people in his office. Logos is When they talk about why Colgate is the number 1 toothpaste.
I watched a Cintas Commercial, where this guy was basically trying to persuade his audience about how Cintas can help keep their businesses running properly. He uses logos by asking the audience a question to how they can keep their businesses running correctly. Then, he uses logos when he says that to run a business properly your workers must have proper equipments and shows the happy faces of the workers. He then used ethos when he says that Cintas already serves a lot other companies.
I watched an Amazon Alexa commercial. In this commercial, many artists like, Cardi B, Gordon Ramsay, and more were using Alexa to help them in their everyday life. This commercial appeals to Ethos because many people believe these artists. Ethos is attracting someone using credibility which these artists have. Therefore, many people would buy Alexa thinking it will make their life easier.
The commercial I found was a Hyundai commercial filmed about three years ago for the Super Bowl. In this ad, they used Kevin Hart as the father who let his daughter go on a date. Kevin gives the daughter’s date his car keys, but only to be able to track him down. The entire time all you see is Kevin Hart in the background scaring the daughter’s date around without her seeing, and he keeps getting more and more scared. For example, they’re in the Hyundai and they’re about to kiss but Kevin Hart pops out in a helicopter. In the end, the boy tells the girl he is taking her home since her dad is crazy and she’s mad because they’re home early and the dad is just like, “so how was your date?” This ad used ethos and pathos I believe. Ethos because they used Kevin Hart as credibility because he is famous and for being funny, which is when pathos comes in. They used pathos to make the commercial funny, which it was.
I watched a Nike commercial. The logos of this commercial was to use the mike slogan “ just do it “ whenever you feel down and think you can’t do anything. The pathos in this commercial demonstrates a woman who talked about how the only person who can motivate you, is you. The message basically is that with motivation and consistency you will achieve your goals and to always have Nike sneakers on to aid you with that. The ethos showed how the slogan “just do it” , made people noticed NIKE’s shoes are so good that it all motivated the woman to get up and motivate herself to workout.
The commercial I chose is an old Mountain Dew commercial back in 2013. The commercial has to do with a goat speeding on the highway and gets pulled over by a cop and when the cop checks the trunk theres a bunch of Mountain Dew bottles there. The commercial uses pathos by causing me to laugh because of how bizarre something like that would be. It uses logos by making it seem that Mountain Dew must be really good because of how many bottles the goat stole.
I watched the Trix Cereal Commercial. It appeals to logic because of the cereal is sweet and colorfully that younger kids would be more interested in. It appeals to ethos because they used an animated rabbit to attach children’s attention. It appeals to pathos because of the humor they added when the rabbit was not able to eat the cereal and the little girl says, “Silly rabbit. Trix is for kids.”
The commercial that I chose to watch was about a Coca-Cola commercial. This commercial talked about how Coca-Cola has passed on smiles from generations to generations. Although the ad was 30 seconds it had Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. The Ethos was when The commercial mentioned that it passed on smiles from generations to generations. It also talked about how this product is sometimes used for a get together. The Pathos, Is how the ad mentioned, ” we have been giving kids Scholarships”. Which I found as this to be pathos. Logos is when through the video it showed groups of people, individual and etc. All smiling and having a fun time while drinking coca cola.
