If there are already two responses to one of the questions in the comments section, please answer another one of the questions. Example, if two students have already responded with answers to question #2, then please answer another of the 9 questions.
The question that i will be answering is question number 8. First of all, as seen in the bottom of the picture titled,”Black Lives Matter”. My assumption is that, there is a protest going on and the police is arresting her. The image makes me feel confident. Although, I really don’t know whether the black women is right or wrong. I can assume that she stood up for her black community. This message is really powerful because it is showing that, she won’t stop until blacks get their rights and equality. It is bringing awareness for everyone in the society for her braveness.
Question #3
In my opinion, I think the audience is watching this happen, like it is a non-violent protest. The woman is wearing neutral colors, not black, not white, it is in between for equality. I feel like the audience this is drawn to is the black community because she is speaking up for them, saying no matter what they do, even in peace, the cops will attack them. The audience is also the white people to show them how they get treated unfairly just by the color of their skin. This is important because she is speaking up for the people that get oppressed and she is giving them a voice.
Question #4:
I think the purpose of this image is to demonstrate the idea that people who protest for Black Lives Matter are willing to get in trouble and deal with the police as long as they are standing up for what they believe in. I noticed that the girl looked calm as the police approached her, and so it makes me think that she has no problem with being confronted by the police because she is protesting for the rights of Black people who have been killed by cops. I think this image has been used by other people for the purpose of demonstrating strength and bravery vs. corruption of power. Other people may have shown this picture in order to show others how there are people willing to fight for the rights of others, even if it means they are risking their lives or their chances of being arrested.
Question #4
I think the purpose of the image was to show that in society, there is still tension between people who are colored and white. The image shows a colored woman in front of two armed white policemen during the Black Lives Matter protest. She looks passionate about what she is fighting for. She is looking straight at the policemen who seem to look a little intimidated. I think the photographer took this picture to show that if you see something that needs to be changed, do something about it instead of being afraid to speak your voice. It is more important to confront than to hide. It is also important to speak for colored people and speak for equal rights.
Q#8
The first thing I see is a black woman with her hands put in front and police officers with plastic handcuffs. That alone makes me feel indignant. The reason why I felt angry was because it looked like that person did not commit any crime and still, that person was handcuffed. I also know about the police brutality with black people. So, I felt that because that person was protesting about black lives matter that probably was the reason for the arrest. I also felt sad because it looks like she was the only person getting arrested. I wonder how it might feel to get arrested by so many police officers around you.
Number 8: The image radiates many strong emotions as it has a non-white woman surrounded by policemen in riot gear. This image makes me feel a bit threatened. The woman standing in front of them doesn’t seem to be threatening yet there’s a whole crew of armed policemen in riot gear surrounding her and looking as if they’re about to arrest her. It makes me feel like even if I may be innocent there are ways people will find something against me to claim me wrong or guilty. It also makes me feel like even if I might be in a safe place it doesn’t mean that I’ll be safe being in that place. What if one day, I’m walking down a sidewalk and a white man calls me a terrorist. In what context would I be a terrorist if I’m only walking on a sidewalk? We are our own enemies. We question each other when we already know each other. We despise even when we show love. This is why this image makes me feel threatened and scared of the society. Everything is contradictory.
Number 5. What gave rise to this photo its exigence was the cops running up to the girl as if she is armed or highly dangerous. I think this is important because it grabs the viewer’s attention and makes them think why are they all huddled up against this one girl in a dress. This compares to the exigency of history and past protests by stressing how important the protest was and the risk the protestors are taking. Also, she is a woman of color so it can also be compared to past civil rights protests. This would be important because it could be a message to the people of today that nothing has changed and the same problems happening then are still happening now. It tells me that we are in need of change.
