Toulmin Method of Argument

The Toulmin Method of Argument

The most useful method for me at this very moment was the one that I find much straight forward, and that would be the Explicit/Implicit Method. The Toulmin method does definitely require me to dig into the work that I am reading. For the analyzation of Form and Content, it was more than just reading the words. I understood the argument of the reading, but I think that without the Toulmin method, I wouldn’t have had a greater insight of what it really is trying to deliver. The fact that this type of analyzation requires me to ask and answer questions that are not so direct, opens my eyes to discover where the author of a work is getting this information from, it almost provokes a sense of discovering of my own. As I answered the questions, for instance, to find the claim wasn’t as hard, but to look for backing and a warrant, I had to read in between the lines, should I or not look for information outside the text. For now, though, I prefer to still get more comfortable with it, because I’m pretty sure I missed out on a few details.
