12:00pm- Home. Speaking to siblings in both English and Spanish in a casual way asking them to get tot he table to eat lunch. Codeswitched between speaking to my siblings (ages 6 and 8) and the way I got my brothers attention (3 years old) involving more sweet talk.
12:20pm: We are all speaking Spanglish at the table, meanwhile also watching tv from afar. We each have something to say about the movie.
1:30pm My attention switches from the movie to my phone where I start texting my best friend. Language is very casual, and relaxed, with an occasional use of slang terms.
2:00pm Scrolling through Facebook, reacting to posts and videos. Commented on a few of my family’s pictures complementing their posts.
3:15pm: Started my communication homework by reading a chapter from the assigned text.
4:47pm: Switched over to math homework, Engaged more in the exercises by completing calculations, inputting my answers in the class website and constantly speaking to myself in order to complete my calculations or a specific problem.
6:00pm: Stopped math h.w. Scrolled through my email inbox and messenger chat. Caught up with the latest conversation from my friends from the Ecuadorian club. Mixed Spanish and English texts, with the use of the happy face and smiling emojis.
6:30pm: called my little brother up for his shower. The sweet child talk comes back. I am speaking both English and Spanish and my topic involves speaking about cars and trains while I shower him. Afterward, I call out to my other sisters for them to shower on their own.
7:12pm: We are all back at the table, ready for dinner. While I serve, there is a casual talk between my little sister and about a trip she doesn’t want to go to because she gets carsick. I try to make her feel better by letting her know she doesn’t have to go if she doesn’t want to.
7:30pm At the table, we are once more eating and watching tv from afar. I constantly tell my siblings to hurry up with their food.
8:00pm: We are all bored at home. Decide to put a movie up on Netflix. Beauty and the Beast wins after scrolling up and down the big screen. I’ve never seen it and think its a good movie overall. One of my sisters ends up crying at the end. I have to console her, in both English and Spanish I try to bring the best words up to make her feel better.
10:00pm: Give direction to my siblings so that they can brush their teeth and go to sleep. It takes me a while since they try to convince me that it’s Saturday night and there is no school the next day.
11:03pm: Getting ready to shower. At this point everybody else is already sleeping. It’s my lone time and I get to beat music while I take a relaxing shower.
11:30pm: I’m out. It’s dark and all I have are my thoughts.
