Timeline

For my creative remix idea I want to do a timeline. However, I don’t want to do a simple timeline I want to include pictures and make it a little interesting. I chose a timeline because my topic includes dates that are relevant and important.

What are you doing during quarantine?

This is a photo taken by me recently. This photo describes what I have been up to during the last six weeks. In the photo, there is a textbook, my laptop, and a notebook. I chose this photo because that is all I’ve done in the last six weeks. I feel this is my new life. I spend most of my time doing homework or on my computer and it is like I just do homework the whole day. I know not everyone has the same experience but I think most college students are feeling the same. We listen to the lectures and have to stay seated and do homework right after. It’s like the day goes by fast and we just do homework.  

The message of this cartoon is to combey how hard life is when you are home. When the quarantine started, people took the time to reflect and connect with other people in the house. However, this started changing when people had to start to work from home. People thought this situation was going to last a few days. Now, we have more than one month in quarantine and do not have a date yet for when we are going back to a “normal life”. Also, everyone right now is trying to adapt in different ways because each one has something different to do at home. For me, what is funny in this cartoon is the mother in the washing area doing her work. It’s funny how everyone is doing something or needs something from the mother but I am sure the mother does not have someone to go to. I feel like during this time of Covid-19, people think this would be a time to unite families in their home. However, in some homes this creates chaos. For example, in my house there is not a specific space to do homework or a quiet space. I feel the same that is happening to everyone else. Now, that everyone is home there is less space to concentrate. Imagine houses with more than two children, and the mother has to work from home. I like this genre because it’s easy to interpret and also find the funny meaning behind it. I feel cartoons are an effective way to make a political point because they reveal funny messages, sometimes in favor of the government and sometimes not. I feel people pay more attention to political cartoons showing what is really happening in the world, instead of reading what happens. I feel cartoons are more efficient than text because they can take you more rapidly to the context.

This podcast is called Coronavirus: Fact vs. Fiction, CNN hosted by CNN chief medical correspondent DR. Sanjay Gupta. This podcast consists of multiple ways to explain the coronavirus. Starting with How to Help, most people do not realize there are multiple ways to help people that are infected. Not only people that are healthy but also the ones that are being recovered can donate blood for experiments. The next section is dating at a distance during a pandemic. Dating throughout a pandemic is hard but it also increases people’s willingness and efforts to get a person. However, there are people that find ways to keep a long distance relationship without a pandemic. Also, it might turn in a positive way. There are more topics being covered in this podcast such as how doctors decide who is going to get the treatment first. It is not just because doctors do not want to assist but because ventilators and supplies are low. Not only people that are going outside but also the prisons are going through a crisis because they are also infected. The people that are offering their views are Medicals directors and professors in medical schools. Not only professionals but also Ti kTokers have been offering their opinions on the topic and how it is also affecting them but they are trying to keep positive. What interested me about this podcast is the way they not only use professional terms but also things that people can relate to. For example, in the first section a girl describes how she just delivers food to the elderly and that is her way of helping. Sometimes people do not know that simple things matter and we can help. What I learned from this podcast is that I thought people did not like to wear masks because it was uncomfortable but actually doctors said before that if you were not sick it was not mandatory to wear it. However, now the president orders people to wear masks everywhere you go. Also, it is important to understand that we use masks to protect others from us. I recommend this podcast to my classmates because it reveals tips on how to behave during this pandemic and also that it is important to behave as if we are ill because this will help us keep cautious. I prefer listening to the podcast more than reading a newspaper. I feel that listening to a podcast is more interesting, in a way that I can continue doing more things while listening. Last but not least, television news is more just like a monotony and they keep repeating everything fast and I feel that I do not catch the point.  

Covid 19 expands so fast around the world? How could people have avoided it?

*COVID-19 is a respiratory virus that can be spread with any daily activities  

    -Spreads with people sneezing, coughing, or just touching any surface. 

*COVID-19 reveals how people are connected and how one person without knowing who is infected can get infected. 

    -How a person in China infected others that did not even know about it?

*Government policies implemented as the COVID-19 started to expand?

    -Closing of borders 

    -mandatory quarantine 

     -Statistics in how much people have been dying on a daily basis

*People think that the situation is a joke and are not taking the necessary steps to reduce the expansion. 

   -Keep going out without having reasons. 

*However, people should have more consideration for the government and try to adapt to what is happening now.

Just for kids is a web page that explains serious situations in a simple way for kids to understand. My response to this article about Coronavirus is that it is important to keep kids updated on what is happening in our society right now. Sometimes parents feel their children do not know what is happening in our society or is not impacting them. However, let’s put ourselves in a child’s shoes, one day you are out the next day there is no school and you can’t go out because the country is under quarantine. I chose this comic because I am part of the people that read things because of attractiveness. As soon as I saw it was a comic, I started to read it. That also happens to kids, for kids to be interested in something, it needs to catch attention. Let’s say this comic is posted on a wall, rapidly kids will be interested to see what it says.

I chose this article because I have seen people that are not minding this and keep using money without thinking of the consequences. It is obvious that people will think it is only because of the Coronavirus but paper money has other bacterias we cannot see. Paper money is important because otherwise the economy will stop running or functioning. But, in my opinion, paper money is one of the main reasons the virus keeps spreading. There are still people that do not have a reason to go out, going out just because they feel the virus is not that strong. I think it will be a good idea, as the article said, to implement a disinfectant  of cash as they did in china. However, it is important to stop the exchange of money but also let’s keep in mind small and big companies are suffering financially in this situation.

“If coronavirus spreads to this population, it could be catastrophic” by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon

This article is posted in CNN Opinion and it started with how a teenage girl, in december, how she did not know where her friends where because they were displaced.  I chose this article because since I started reading it, I felt nostalgic reading how the teenage girl just wanted to be in school. Same situation that is happening right now with COVID-19. People are being displaced to camps in which they are displaced from others and sometimes from their families. Right now with the COVID-19 it might be a chaos if one of does children gets infected. With this virus now, we have to think not only in New York but also others country that are not capacitated to get the virus. As soon as someone gets infected, they will have to be displaced to a place where they might be comfortable. Millions of people are being displaced, also children, where they don’t have the same resources, such as hospitals. As the article explains, this situation is urgent and we must help control it.

I chose a Tv Show that I recently finished watching, All American. All American is a Tv Show streamed on Netflix and it is about a boy called Spencer James. Spencer James was a student in South Crenshaw high school where he played football. Spencer James was a teenage middle class boy who did not have a lot of resources. Until Billy Baker met him. Billy Baker is a recruiter from Beverly High, it was a more advanced high school with more resources than South Crenshaw. But, there was a problem. Billy Baker was convinced that Spencer was a good player for Beverly High but to play he had to live in Beverly High, where he did not have any family and his mother did not have the resources to move to Beverly. Spencer’S mom was a single mother living with Spencer and her other child Dylan. Billy Baker offered Spencer to move with them in their house so that he could play in Beverly High. The moment Spencer Accepted to move to Beverly with coach Baker, displacement started. Spencer who comes from a humble family where he has to work for anything that he wants. Now that he is living with the Baker’s, they have more commodities for Spencer. For example, where Spencer lived he had to take the Bus to go to school and public transportation. Also, every time Spencer goes out has to keep in mind the public transportation hours so that he does not miss it. As soon as he moved to the Baker’s house, Coach Baker offered Spencer a car so that he does not have to take public transportation. Not only this example, but also in the school. In South Crenshaw the school was not that big and the resources were limited. Now, in Beverly High Spencer has more resources. The displacement occurred not only in terms of the home but also with his football progress. This displacement was good for Spencer because in South Crenshaw he was not seen as the good player he was, and was not given the attention he deserved as a player. Now that he was in Beverly more colleges were looking into him and he was considered in the top #100 best football players of the nation. I chose this tv show because I just finished watching it and it shows that sometimes displacement is necessary to develop yourself. In this case, if Spencer did not move to Beverly when Coach Baker offered, maybe he would have not ended up going to one of the best colleges or would not be able to be recognized as one of the best players of the nation.
