Creative Re-mix Idea
For my creative Re-mix idea, I will be doing visual art piece. So basically a drawing showing how distance learning has been working out so far and the issues mentioned in my Analytical Research paper. The difference between students and how they are handling according to what I have heard and been told from my friends who are in Highschool or have siblings in K-12. Also, I will include experiences of my own since the remote learning started.

Assignment for week of 27th
I took this picture two days ago. I was on my way to do something and saw this around my neighborhood. If you look closely you can see Jews gathered together not sure the reasons but they are not wearing masks. Makes me feel annoyed because people are not social distancing and are not facing same consequences for it like others are. A lot of us are actually staying home hoping to be able to go back outside. No offense, but I don’t understand why this is still allowed and NYPD is not enforcing anything. Looks like the rules don’t apply to everyone:/.

Africans in Guangzhou are on edge, after many are left homeless amid rising xenophobia as China fights a second wave of coronavirus
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/10/china/africans-guangzhou-china-coronavirus-hnk-intl/index.html
This article talks about how Africans living in China are being evicted in different parts of the country due to Coronavirus fears. The city of Guangzhou has the largest African population in China and convinced that Black people are responsible for the spread and should be to blame. Many Africans were evicted left homeless and sleeping in the streets because hotels refused to service them. Also, being tested for COVID19, forcibly quarantined at their homes, banned from entering businesses, harassed by law enforcement, and without a home amid the pandemic. As known, the coronavirus was originated in Chinese origins. African officials confronted the Chinese government for this mistreatment that Blacks are receiving. Many try to justify their actions are prevention from a second wave of the virus, while others demand that this is discrimination and cruel. I chose this article because people are being displaced from what they called home amid the pandemic, which I found to be just evil. There are many things wrong with this especially the discrimination against Africans because they are being portrayed as a cause of the pandemic. This is creating displacement for them as they are becoming homeless as well as seen differently in a community that they have been living for a while. One of the rules to prevent and be safe during this time is by staying home, but Africans are being kicked out of their homes and forced to live on the streets. These precautions are leaving people without proper living conditions and not other shelter options. In addition, we have seen Asians experience discrimination and displacement in the U.S. but it is not being portrayed so far as what Blacks are experiencing in China.

Assignment for Week of April 20th- Political Cartoons
I think that all the cartoons were amazing. But I chose this specific cartoon because it has ignorance all over it. This actually happening in some parts of the country, where people mostly trump’s supporters are protesting in favor of reopening cities and businesses. They want all restrictions to be lifted and be able to not only endanger themselves, but others. They believe that the pandemic is a hoax. It just shows how ignorant and not smart these people are, but no wonder who their leader is. What’s funny about this cartoon is the virus figure also holding signs of support indicating that what they are doing is silly since the point is to protect ourselves from the virus, which is outside. I think that it depends because a cartoon can persuade you more into the cartoonist’s views on what they are trying to express. But they are funny and keep you in touch with political issue that go on.

Assignment for week of April 13th: Covid19 podcast
What Will the Summer Be like?
Social Distance- The Atlantic, Episode 29
This podcast is about how our upcoming summer will look like “after” the corona virus pandemic has slowed down. Ed Yong, a writer staff for the podcast, explains and answers the questions from the hosts about Covid19 and summer. His theories are there is a possibility to reopen for summer but it won’t be “normal” and there will be restrictions to the things we are most likely to be looking forward to enjoy. How can we contain the virus while trying to get to out to the world. Katherine, one of the hosts, seems excited and looking forward to summer as her birthday in July. She asks very specific questions which explicitly shows her hopes as the rest of the world. Jim, the other hosts, doesn’t talk as much but at the beginning of the podcast he mentions how he felt like a dog waiting to go on a walk. Ed Yong, guest and staff writer who have been studying infectious diseases for a while, has theories about how the summer will look like with Coronavirus. He has doubts about the summer. Even if outside world is reopened, there will be a lot of restrictions in place that we are totally forgetting about. He does believe that things won’t be back to normal but instead more enjoyable.
It was interesting what Jim said at the beginning of the podcast. I absolutely found interesting Ed Yong’s theories because so far he has been one of the realistic person when talking about the pandemic and summer. He responded each question honestly and clear which made sense to me and I understood what he said. A lot of people are looking forward to summer with the idea that it’s going to be like any other summer as before but being realistic it’s not. Something I sorted learned from this podcast was that we don’t appreciate little things such a walk. We always wait for something to happen or to be take away in order to see its value. Also, how one thing affect us all. I did know this before but never saw it coming from many other people around the world. Also, how much lack of common sense Trump and his government have as they stopped the funding of the WHO during this TIME.
The podcasts didn’t influence my views on the subject because I been very realistic about it but I did find that I shared the same views with other people. It’s not going back to normal and this summer not matter how fun we try to make it, it is going to be the same. The “normal” everyone seems to be talking about is what got us where we are now. People will appreciate everything more and enjoy more hopefully but there will be restrictions in place during summer and also fear. As Ed mentioned a lot of places we used to go and enjoy won’t be opening for the rest of the year, some even had to closed down permanently. I would absolutely recommend this podcast to my classmates because we need to be more realistic about the pandemic and be cautious. I know most of us are looking forward to have a good summer after being at home for months. I did like this podcast because it had an energetic atmosphere and it was interesting to listen to. It touched many topics and also didn’t have as much negativity about the topic as the news and the media.

Climate change and displacement
I chose an article called “climate change and disaster displacement” because I noticed that even though a lot of us advocate and try to bring awareness to this change, it’s not taken serious enough. But there’s is much more than just temperatures. Climate change is leaving people and animals without homes. As climate change drastically, the possibility of natural disasters such as flooding increases leaving many people displaced from what they know as home and adapted environment. In the article it’s mentioned that often people become refugees as a result of the concerning climate change creating disasters. Also, makes it difficult for people to adapt and survive when being forcibly displaced. I believe that climate change should be a concern since is creating situation for struggle and not having a place to called home.
