My Creative Re-Mix Idea

Knowing that my research paper is about the impact COVID-19 has on low income families I want to show my community. I can say that I live in a low income area and I think this assignment would be a great opportunity to show that. My idea is that I am going to make a slide presentation with bunch a pictures from my neighborhood and describing how has COVID-19 effected my area.

Assignment for week 4/27

“A Beautiful Day At A Terrible Time”

I took this photo earlier today and I decided to take this photo because today was beautiful today. I mean it was nearly 80 degrees outside! The reason for this photo is because usually on a nice day like this, this photo shows a few things that make this picture stand out in a way. Because of the pandemic we are in, it’s sad that the only thing I could do is go about in front of my building for fresh air. This is because I still feel unsafe to go outside no matter how nice the weather is. My fire escape in the picture is usually where I sit out on days like this to enjoy fresh air and the view. Also, it’s hard to see but if you can’t tell I live right next to a cemetery. Recently there has been a lot of work going on in that cemetery and that is a little conserving. I just feel like no matter how nice it is everyone should still stay home. It’s always nice to at least go for a walk, but it is still a risk. This virus spreads easily and I believe we could be in danger because of a day like this. While I was taking the photo people were playing music all day today, so it was easy to tell that there were a lot of people around the neighborhood. I just feel like today was a test for New Yorkers and we failed.

Cartoon Assignment

I chose this cartoon to talk about because I want to acknowledge the true heros in this whole pandemic. Those people are doctors, delivery men/women, and the people that work in supermarkets. These people are risking their lives everyday just to save ours and I feel like the media should be preaching them more than anybody right now. Right now it can be argued that these people are getting more exposed to the virus than anyone else right now. It takes a lot out of a person to risk their life everyday for others not knowing if they can harm themselves or even their loved ones. It takes a growth mindset to go outside everyday because going outside is a risk. Doctors with family are at risk the most because of how exposed doctors are of germs and are the people that are trying to figure out what this virus is all about. Also, we have to give respect to the people that deliver these supplies and goods everyday. These people go to a lot of different people’s houses everyday, so these people are getting exposed to multiple parts of a city that have the virus, especially a city like New York. They are also giving the people the pleasure to stay home and be safe while other people take that risk to deliver these goods to the people. Also, one thing that outside the cartoon that I think is missing is celebrities that have been donating a lot of money to the people that need it and we are talking about supplying food and goods. I think these celebrities should be acknowledged too because i feel like they are doing more than the government when it comes to supplies. It’s good to see the top 1% in the economy help the people that need it, but overall these people are the real heroes of this whole virus.

Podcast Assignment

COVID-19 is Exposing US Racism in a Stark New Way with Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones, Democracy Now

The podcast I decided to choose was “COVID-19 is  Exposing US Racism in a Stark New Way ” and I’ve been wanting to look into this topic more often. There has been a lot of talk lately on the news about how COVID-19 is exposing the US to racism. Most of the time when it comes to big dramatic events like COVID-19 for some reason there are always other races affected the most than whites. I think this shows how racism will never disappear in my eyes. Racism has been around for over 200 years and now in 2020 with the world being more diverse than ever before in human history for some reason they will always be talking about racism. While I was listening to this Podcast and hearing just the data that was represented of how many blacks and other races that have gotten in low income areas. Places like Illinois, Michihan, New York, Chicago, and Louisiana are stated that most COVID-19 death tolls have come from African Americans! To me I  thought it is because probably those people are not access to resources like others or just people that just din;r care and want to be outside, but the way the podcast explains it seems that reports wanted to make this a racial thing. Also, one thing that interested me was how they gave a lot of news about New York specifically because we are the epicenter for all of this. Also, the podcast was explain reasons that Afrcan American have a lot of death tolls caused by COVID-19 because of the reason that those people living in racially segregated communities meaning that these people are struggling to get things such as food and those communities can have people with other disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma. Also, another thing is that in the beginning of the podcast they were talking about Andrew Cuomo and how he is taking authority. Meaning that he is being a great leader for New York and doing his best. Differently on how some way any situation can involve racism. An example I can see that started this talk about about how COVID-19 is exposing US of racism is when Trump called COVID-19 the “chinese virus” and not only that shows a so call leader we have, but shows how politicians don’t know what they are talking about when it comes to COVID-19. I believe scientists and doctors should be the only people informing the people about COVID-19 because they are the most truthfully propellant when it comes to these situations. I would recommend fellow peers to watch this podcast because it opens my eyes differently.

Displacement Blog for 4/20

I chose this article to represent displacement because what these refugees have to go through in Himalaya is unexceptable and shows an example on how it feels to be displaced. Recently, there has been an issue on global warming in the Himalayas and people in that area are struggling to survive. The area is in a drought and has a lack of food. People can’t even grow crops. The villages are getting dry. A person named Sonam Chhiring Gurung, says “I love this village”. People like Sonam could feel the same exact way about the village and that’s where I feel this shows displacement. These people are being forced to move somewhere else from a place they know their whole life and say they absolutely love. This is a country that 70% of its people work in agriculture meaning they all depend on crops to eat and survive, so going to another place will be hard for them. This is because they would probably have to adapt into a new culture that they are unfamiliar with or even be in a workforce that they don;t have to rugt skills to work with. Forced to move when you don’t want to can cause a person to feel displaced. People are struggling to survive and don’t know what to do! Imagine the people with children. What are the children thinking or what are they going through? Some families are forced to move because of crop failure. Families are struggling to not only feed themselves, but their kids as well. Most people don’t even know their necks move. These people got nothing to depend on like how America is depending on the government with the situation of the coronavirus. These people got nowhere to go or have no access to other resources. These people in the Himalayas are in big jeopardy because without food or shelter how do you survive? You feel worthless and can’t do anything. Displacement is best described for this article because it shows loneliness and feeling you don;t know what to do. This article is interesting to look at because it shows how other parts of the world can have bigger problems than other people.

Dylan’s Proposal: COVID-19 Impact on Low Income Families

Prompt #1: Coronavirus impact on low income families

Questions about this prompt that I am thinking about are:

How has COVID-19 affected low income families financially?

Did COVID-19 show how wealthy people will always have more power than the poor?

Are low income people more at risk of getting COVID-19 because of the desperate need of getting important supply?

The reason why I want to research the impact the coronavirus has on low income people is because I believe they can be affected the most. Since the coronavirus hit New York hard low incomes families have been struggling to get food and other supplies that are needed like gloves, masks, soap, and ect. Especially the impact on supermarkets have been mind blowing and that’s when this topic came to my mind. How are people going to get food if wealthy people are over-supplying on food? First time I went to the supermarket you can just see how people are panicking and are only worried about themselves. I also consider myself to be in the low/working class myself, so I believe I can show my perspective on the impact of COVID-19.

Displacement Article that was for 3/30/2020

I chose this article to talk about because I think its really important to talk and doesn’t get enough emphasis. This article is about how nearly a million children were left behind in Venezuela while their parents migrate. Which means that these children are all on they own with out no guidance. How does this relate to displacement? Well, these children are about to be isolate and will have no one to go too. These children are feeling displace because there are not going to have that “childhood” like other kids. What I mean is that these children have to adapt from being a child to having responsibilities as adults. These kids are only in grade school and  the parents in Venezuela are about to leave their children to find things such as food, work and medicine. Venezuela is going through an impact that is effecting all people in a terrible way. Parents fell forced to leave because if they don’t they won’t survive with the resources they have. The children are feeling displace because probably some of them don’t even know what is going on. These children how to adapt on taking. are of themselves while then depending on their parents. Every children needs their parents and without the parent they feel displace. Who they are going to talk to? How they are going to live on their own? These are some questions to consider when wondering what these children are going to do to provide themselves with whatever they need. In the article you will see how a year old child is feeding a baby! Even though this sound impressive and gives children advantages on some things adults do. Children is suppose to be enjoying life and be a kid instead jumping in to adulthood. While we have a big crisis going on for ourselves I think this article is important and should be an eye opener on what other people go through.

Assignment #2: GTA IV Displacement

I chose this text because I am a big fan of video games. This game is called Grand Theft Auto IV: Liberty City. For people this video game is inappropriate in some ways, but I love the stories the creators created this game. In this game the main character named Niko Bellic is going to America for the first time. Niko grew up in Yugoslavia, where he fought in the Yugoslav Wars. He later worked for organized crime syndicates as a hired-gun in Liberty City. Ever since the Yugoslav Wars ended Niko’s main goal in life was to find and kill one of two men: Florian Cravic or Darko Brevic, for one of them betrayed and nearly killed him during the Wars. Niko is the younger cousin of Roman Bellic and is there to meet him at the docks for his arrival. Niko is coming from a boat to Liberty City where he has never been before. This is  the beginning of his adventure in Liberty City, but at the beginning he can’t fit in at first. He is so stuck on what happened in the wars all he is worried about is killing those men who betrayed him. Niko feels displaced in Liberty City because no one can relate to him. No one can relate to Niko that he went to war and almost lost his life because of the people that he thought were his friends. His cousin Roman wants Niko to just enjoy life and forget the past, but Roman doesn’t understand Niko went to a bloody war and almost lost his life. Niko holds that for  years and will never let it go until he gets this revenge. Niko goes on and starts looking around the city just trying to meet people and it’s hard to do when Niko first comes to America. Later in the series he meets a person named Little Jacob. Little Jacob is Jamaica while Niko is firm Europe, so  at first it was hard to commute. Niko couldn’t make friends without Roman’s help. Roman is the only person that gets all people and that’s another way Niko feels displaced. Because Niko needs Roman help to communicate he feels handicap because all of Niko’s life Niko took care of himself and believes he needs no one help. The series of this game is extremely long, but it’s a great story for a video game. I suggest you should watch some series of this video game, but remember some things are inappropriate in this text.
