Co-Hosting Schedule

Working in pairs, each of you will be responsible for “co-hosting” one of our Wednesday class sessions this semester.  Your hosting responsibilities should include the following:

  • Atmosphere: Set the mood by playing music and/or projecting images.
  • Appetizer: Begin class with a “check-in” question.
  • Food for Thought: You will have time (usually at the beginning of class) to share an offering with the class. Possible ideas for your offering might include: describing a particular dish or food related ritual from your culture or family traditions, raising a compelling food-related issue, reporting on a particular restaurant or other food business here in NYC, sharing a song, poem, video, or other creative text that relates to food or eating, or bringing to our attention a food-related news piece.  If you are sharing something with us electronically, please upload your offering to our class blog before class.  Don’t overthink this.  If it interests you and it is related to food, feel free to share it with us!
  • Service:  No matter what our class plan is for the day you are co-hosting, your job is to do whatever you can to ensure that class runs smoothly and productively and that we all leave class satisfied.  If I am the formal “host” of our class sessions, on this day, you are my “co-hosts”.
  • Digestion:  Within seven days of your co-hosting class, please submit a reflection to me via email ([email protected]).  This should be a short (250-500) word informal evaluation of your co-hosting experience.  How did it go?  How did you feel?  What went well?  What challenges did you run into?  How did your collaboration with your partner go?  What do you wish you had done differently?  What did you learn from this experience?

Our co-hosting schedule is below.  Feel free to reach out ahead of your date if you want to discuss your plans or if you have any questions.  This should be fun, not stressful.
