About me-Helen Chen
Hello my name is Helen Chen, I was born in New York Manhattan, I am first generation and currently a freshman at Baruch majoring in Accounting management. Even though I was born in America I was raised in China until I was 4 years old. China has delicious food, in my memories, the food that I always liked when I was a child was the dumplings. My auntie always brought me it when we went out to grab food but it has been a long since I ever tried again because I also haven’t been back to China for a while and many things have changed. Food is always what keeps me happy every time after classes or any stress I grab food with my friend which makes me happy the food I always get is popcorn chicken which has been one of my favorite foods for a while, but overeating could be unhealthy. I am picky, which always gives my family a headache, and sometimes my family there always certain dishes that I don’t like but as I grow older I start liking those foods that I didn’t like before. One of my hobbies is drawing, drawing always keeps my mind relieved and also keeps me away from stress. The picture below is the oil painting that I did in my art class, I joined art class because I wanted to do a Fashion major at first but I started learning drawing in my junior year which was a bit late, but then I felt even I do like drawing but fashion wasn’t a thing for me so I decided to change my major. In my art class I did oil painting which was one of my favorite lessons because it was a new thing for me and I always wanted to try it out, at first I was struggling but I liked the final that is what matters.

Christopher Peralta (About me)
My name is Christopher Peralta, a first generation student and I am currently attending Baruch College with an experience of Merchant Cash Advances (MCA), business loans, and lines of credit lending. My story of trying to overcome adversity and then contributing to the success of local businesses is just the start of my journey. Living in shelter homes as a child, and now being a part of a team that funds over 2 million dollars in a month to support businesses across the United States at 18, this is only the beginning As long as I continue to pursue my passion for the finance industry, I am confident that I can continue to make a positive difference in the world while pushing myself beyond what is expected of me. In terms of food I love meat and pasta due to the fact it goes with anything. What I mean by that is with pasta there is a variety of things you can add which will taste fantastic. Examples are (Hot sauce, CHEESE, tuna, lettuce) Much more and same goes with meat. There is difference types of meat I love beef, steak, salami, meatballs, pork, and sausage; the variety is amazing and love eating it. I would not say I am picky even though I met a lot of people that are picky however I am not. So there is no food that I do not like, that can also prove my grateful attitude that I have. The image that speaks to me is sunsets in New York City. I love the city and I would want to stay here in the future especially in Soho. In this life of uncertainty and danger, it is good to appreciate the beautiful things in life which was my thought process when trying to choose a picture.

- Read “Memories of Meals Past” (You can find the link under the “Texts” tab.) In response to your reading, create a blog post in which you share a “memory of a meal past” of your own. Use the examples you read as your inspiration as you flesh out your memory. What was the context of the meal? What was its significance? What sensory details can you provide to bring your memory to life for your reader? Feel free to add a photo to your post. Your memory should be shared on the blog no later than noon on Monday, February 5th.
- Read Gabrielle Hamilton, “Killing Dinner”. Please bring a hard copy of the essay with you to class on Monday.
- Read your classmates’ posts about “Memories of Meals Past”. Choose three posts that piqued your interest and respond to them. (Look for posts that do not already have many comments. We want to be sure that every post is commented upon!!) Make your comments as specific as you can. What did you particularly like about the writer’s post? What questions do you have about the experience the author is describing? What else would you like to know about it? How does this post connect to your own identity and memories? Please make sure that you have shared your comments by 12 pm on Wednesday, February 7th.

About Me (Kevin Xu)
My name is Kevin Xu, and I am currently a freshman at Baruch college and majoring in Finance. I am born here and was raised in China, Fujian. Growing up in China I was always fascinated about food and video games. One of the foods I loved eating growing up is these fried dough with red beans inside. My grandparent would always buy these in the morning on my way to school with soybean milk to drink. Video games is an activity that all kids love to do back than and I wasn’t an exception. Now I am still the same but have expand my palate for food and new hobbies. Now I enjoy playing volleyball and built computers. I been playing volleyball for about two years now and I played for my high school team in varsity. Foodwise, depending on my goals, I would eat certain foods. During my volleyball season, my diet was based on lean proteins and bunch of greens and rice. There is always bunch of salmon in my fridge because my uncle would bring them to me every single month. Now since I am not playing for any team, I just eat whatever I want. Steak is one of the foods I would definitely eat every day. I wasn’t really into steak until one of my friends cooked it in a certain way. He cooks where the steak is pink and juicy while the outside of the steak is very crispy and crunchy. Ever since I hadn’t think twice about asking him to make me a steak. I always enjoy crunch food. It so fun to eat like chips, fried chicken whatever that crispy. I like my chicken triple coated and refried it until it extremely crunchy. It is very unhealthy, but it is my comfort food. Overall, I am a very easy-going person and the main thing I want is to make a lot of connections in college and make a lot of friends.

This is one of my comfort foods and my main source of protein. The steak looks delicious and dazzling. If I can only choose one food to eat for an entire year, I would’ve chosen steak.

Alexander Peña (He/Him)
My name is Alexander Peña. I was born in the Dominican Republic and came to America when I was 5 years old. I first lived in the Bronx from 2010-2012, then moved to Washington Heights where I have lived ever since. I enjoy playing basketball, hanging out with friends, making jokes, and eating food. Since food is such a big theme of our semester, some of my favorite foods include rice and beans with ribs. I love chicken tenders, fries, and a milkshake. I love bacon cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, French toast, pancakes, and many more foods. I love potato salad, grapes, oranges, papaya, and apples. With saying all this, I am still a very picky eater. You will never catch me eating something new or trying something new. I always order the same things, eat the same things, and make the same foods at home. Being picky is something that I am trying to move past from, but it’s difficult to change a habit that I have had my whole life. Some other information about me is that I am the second youngest of 4 brothers. I am fluent in speaking and writing in English and Spanish. I have 2 nephews. I love playing video games- 2k24, Fortnite, Madden, Call of Duty, etc. I am very easygoing and approachable. I am good at keeping conversations going. I consider myself an introvert because I don’t seek out to create new friendships and relationships. I usually wait for someone to come to me. I want to become more of an outgoing person especially now since I am in college. These are just some things about me. The image below is me playing in a basketball game for my high school. Basketball is the thing I love most. I love playing it and watching it. I am a student of the game. Some of my closest friendships formed from playing basketball together.

About Me
By Jeff Lliguichuzhca
Hi, my name is Jeff Lliguichuzhca. I am a first-year student at Baruch in my spring second semester. My major is finance, with a minor in computer science and real estate (unsure). Who am I? I am the youngest child in the family, having mixed parents, my dad being Hispanic and my mom being Chinese. One thing I love about myself as a person is giving a helping hand to people in need. My pronouns are him or her. I would like everyone to address me by my first name, Jeff. The photo I chose meant a lot to me because that was my first ever professional picture at Baruch College during the summer. During the summer, seeking allowed me to communicate with many different peers, building the connection needed for the future and growing from others’ experiences. My experiences with Eng 2100 were unexpected because of how the professor set the classroom environment so enjoyable, making it very engaging and encouraging students to speak up and share their points of view. Now in English 2150, I would think it would be hard since the class number went up by 50. me thinking it would be difficult until I met the professor. I came to realize I was wrong. In fact, I believe the course will be simple because the main topic is food. I love food, and food is important for us to live and be healthy. I set a goal in that class that I didn’t achieve in my precious Eng 2100: to do my best in all subjects, aim for a higher grade than an A, and most importantly, be a college-level writer and understand topics. The question that piqued my interest the most is: What is my favorite food? I don’t have a favorite food; I am more of an eat anything type of person, but one thing about me is that I love to enjoy different cultural foods.
