Welcome, Writers!
ABOUT THIS COURSE
Hi writers, welcome to the blog for How Do I See?: English 2100 / Writing I, section JWMO with Jay Thompson. This class meets via Zoom, Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:25-2:05 pm. Office hours are Wednesdays after class or by appointment. If you’d like to email me, you can do so at [email protected] or DM me on our course’s Slack.
This course is called How Do I See?, and the questions at the heart of the course are: How do we cultivate authority? Who do we trust and why? How can we strengthen our own trust in our ways of seeing, judging, acting, and creating?
I will update this blog with our course schedule, readings, and weekly writing prompts (see the links above or in the sidebar). Many readings will come from our class reader, Join the Conversation; others will be posted here as PDFs.
HOW DO I POST TO THE BLOG?
Writing prompt: Once a week, you’ll post a response to a prompt you’ll get in class (and see in the blog’s Weekly Writing Prompts section). For a writing prompt, you’ll do the following:
- Select the “+New” at top / select “Post” from the dropdown.
- Title your post beginning with your first and last name and the current week and then whatever else you’d like to call it (feel free to get creative!). So for example: “Jay Thompson Week 1, Hello World!”
- Write your response.
- Select “Publish.” The response will appear in Student Blog Writing.
Reading response: Once a week, you’ll also answer questions on our reading which you’ll get in class (and see in the blog’s Homework & Readings section). For a reading response, you’ll do the following:
- Select the “+New” at top / select “Post” from the dropdown.
- Title your post with your first and last name and the current week and “Reading Response.” So for example: “Jay Thompson Week 1, Reading Response.”
- Write your response.
- In the Categories box on the right, choose the “Student Reading Response” category. (This is important! If you miss this step, your post will appear in the wrong place!)
- Select “Publish.” The response will appear in Student Reading Responses.
Comment: I’ll periodically ask you to comment on classmates’ posts: responding to ideas and arguments, asking questions, offering appreciations. If you’re logged in at the main Blogs@Baruch site, you can comment by tapping the words “Leave a comment” next to a classmate’s post.
