Joining Club!

r.wang7 on Sep 12th 2017

On September 7, 2017, I attended an interest meeting in Baruch Accounting Society club. They talked about how Baruch Accounting Society will affect you now and in the future. In this club, they explained, they will give students a chance to learn more about the aspects of accounting as a career. Also, they will bring in speakers and recruiters from various big accounting firms to connect with students as well as provide insight into the professional field. I am willing to join this club and gain more career experiences from the professionals. They also listed several requirements such as attend two times of volunteering, attend their meeting…etc. It is a beneficial club to me since I might be going to major for Accounting.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

b.zheng2 on Sep 12th 2017

I visited Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is a famous, big, and old-line museum in New York. It has been close to a quarter mile and covers an area of two million square feet. The museum opened on February 20, 1872. It has 19 parts to show about wide range countries and their different cultures. Also the museum use real exhibitions and informations to let us realize detailedly.
Metropolitan Museum of Art has extensive and specific exhibitions. Take my example, I visit 3 parts about the museum. They impressed me a lot. First, I saw China traditional quadrangle dwellings. They are typical houses in ancient China and has at least 3000 years. Second, it is about Egypt pyramids. The tallest is Khufu, it is 146.5 meters high, 230 meters long, 2.3 million pieces of stones, and coves an area of 52000 square meters. Finally, I visited Europe furniture. It shows us an elegant and high-quality life’s habit.
I really like Metropolitan Museum of Art, because it helps me to learn ancient different countries cultures. All of these countries, my favorite country is Europe and I think that I will travel in the future. Because I like European architecture, sculptures and yearn for an elegant and romantic life.

Exploring the Metropolitan Museum

g.lin6 on Sep 12th 2017

Last Tuesday one of my class was canceled so I ended up with a five hour break until my next class for the day. I suggested to Mir and Anita that we should go to the Metropolitan Museum so that we can find an artifact to write about for Latin class and also for our Blog. We had some trouble getting there since it was our first time, but we managed to get there without getting lost. When we got there went up to the counter bought our ticket and asked where the Mesoamerica section was. There were so many fascinating artifacts in the Mesoamerica section that I didn’t know which one I should pick to write my about. I took pictures of a few of the artifact that I like so I could choose one later. We then went to explore the rest of the museum. Anita and I saw that there was Korean Art so we went to the Asian section to explore. Sadly, there wasn’t much Korean art so I was pretty disappointed. My favorite place in the Asian section was the Chinese courtyard in the style of the Ming Dynasty. The court yard had a breathtaking view. As I walked through the court yard I could also see goldfishes swimming in a pond near the corner of the yard. I took some picture and we went to the next section. Another one of my favorite section was the Egyptian art section where I saw many interesting artifacts. I was fascinated by how many of these Egyptian artifacts had neatly carved colorful designs on them. After we finished exploring the museum we went back to Baruch. I had a great time looking at all the Artifact from different time and places and seeing how similar and different they were with each other.

Blog Post #1. General Interest Meeting.

s.xiao on Sep 12th 2017

I went to the general interest meeting for UCLA, UCLA which stands for United Chinese Language Association, because my friend told me that I should go check it out and they also offer food. So I went to the General Interest Meeting on Thursday at 12:30pm with my friend. While I’m waiting on the 10th floor in the Vertical campus I saw a lot of people coming, in my mind I’m thinking are we able to fit inside the room, since there is a lot of people.

The staff of the club starts to welcome us into the room, while I am walking inside the room I saw that it is a normal size classroom. Because of the amount of people that are coming in the place was so packed, people had to stand during the interest meeting. My overall experience is that it is pretty fun, since I go to know people.

Meeting The Metropolitan Museum Of Art

x.chen36 on Sep 12th 2017

The enrichment opportunity that I choose to attend is an exhibition offered at a NYC museum. The museum that I choose is The Metropolitan Museum Of Art. It is located at Manhattan near central park. It is really big and there are a lot of people coming to visit. There are exhibition halls for Modern and Contemporary Art, Medieval Art, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, Greek and Roman Arts, Egyptian Arts, Asian Arts and etc… There are a lot of paintings, musical instruments, apparels, weapons, and armors from different time period and different places in the world. In the museum, there is a exhibition hall for people to see what the rooms are like for the European royal family back in the day. It is every magnificence and every room is super big decorated with all the gorgeous furniture.
The museum is huge, it will take you hours to look at all the artworks inside there. There are really a lot of beautiful oil paintings and enormous sculptures that are open for people to visit. The MET is a great place for people to take pictures because there beautiful views and settings of the famous places in ancient time. Visitors can get the chance to see what the life are for those people in that time and the things that they are using daily, also the kinds of clothes that they are wearing. It is a great tour and experience in this museum, I got to see a lot of things I haven’t seen before and there are people coming from different countries to visit this museum so we as a New Yorker should not waist this opportunity.

Blog Post #1: Walk Down History

Mir Silvy on Sep 12th 2017

On September 5th one of my class was canceled for the day. I mean that sounds awesome right, but when I looked at my schedule I just wanted to cry. I had a gap of five hours until my next class. Now here I was on my second week of college with a five-hour gap of doing nothing. That’s when my friend Grace had an awesome idea.  She quickly took out her phone and searched up The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s direction from Baruch. We decided on killing two birds with one stone. Don’t worry no birds were killed in the process. With my friends Grace and Anita, all three of us decided to go to the MET. See for our Latin Study class we have a project to describe an art from Mesoamerica, and as well as that, we have to write our first freshman blog post. Our plan seemed full proof we go to the museum and get our work done.

When we got to the Museum obviously, the first thing we did was head to the Mesoamerican art section. Our schoolwork means a lot to us. We stayed in the Mesoamerican art section for half an hour gazing at the beautiful art works of the Olmec, the Mayan and the Aztec. Personally, I was mostly taking pictures for snapchat; museum is a great place for memes. After we were done with our research for our Latin class we ended up visiting the Roman and Byzantine art and other sections of the museum. I noticed something, maybe others have noticed also, the lighting in the Roman and Western civilization art section seems to be bright. In the Egypt, China, India and even Mesoamerican section of the museum, the lighting is much darker. Maybe the artwork is suited for special lighting. Anyways after enjoying the rich artful history of human civilization we ended up heading back to Baruch. I was quite happy, I even got to see some art works from Byzantine, which is my personal my favorite place because I have a story in mind for the Byzantine Empire.

Just photobombing the couple behind me.

Blog#1: Joining my first club

j.brito1 on Sep 11th 2017

So on September 7, 2017, I decided to go and see what the Latinx club reunion on the second floor was about. Since I am a Latino i supposed I should participate. Once I got there, the music was popping, there were people putting sings up and, something caught my eye very quickly, food. I saw this one particular poster that had my country’s flag shield on it, and it happened to be the Dominican Student Association. I asked one of the members how to join and gave them my email and my name. After that, they gave me an ice cream that’s known from my country, called Mamacita, and they offer a dish which I couldn’t get to see or taste because there where so many people at this club reunion. Soon I will attend to my first meeting for this club on September 19th.

Not only was there the Dominican Student Association that day there was also order clubs like the  Ecuadorian club, Lazo and the Undergraduate Student Government (giving out free books). I really enjoyed the music and the vibe that everyone showed that they, it felt like everyone was a big family. I’m also happy because I got to join my first club which is one more step towards involving in Baruch’s society.
