What a First Semester, Akhtarul

Published by at 2:54 PM under Uncategorized

Well, what can one even say? From solving high profile criminal cases to only nearly passing Calculus (probably not), my first semester at Baruch has been adequate, at the very least. High school was an interesting four years for me, as every single minute of my life was stressful yet, mysteriously enough, superficial. A person can only be so happy attending a high school in the gritty and desolate Bronx; to this day I’m surprised I got out of there with my anu–life, intact. I didn’t emerge unscathed though, I lost pieces of myself, as if in a cold and dark hell. I digress, I’ve met some alarmingly interesting characters here at Baruch who have made my experience here only that much more inviting and enjoyable (no sarcasm). Apparently, it also seems that I’ve made quite a few enemies already; I am told I’m weird? I don’t see it. But damn can I see some rocky roads ahead. However, while I can’t agree that the work is more than difficult than it was in my high school, it seems I’ve been stuck in a rut. I have to write an essay that is now eight days overdue, and I still can’t seem to write it. Any ideas? Anyone? Regardless, I don’t seem to mind Baruch too much, but I can admit that I haven’t exactly been involved in any sort of extracurricular or activity, which there is an abundance of here. The college life seems all too familiar, almost as if I’m back in high school again, but I can only hope that it will gradually become better, that I’ll be able to look back in the future and appreciate the years I might spend here, as well as the people I have met and will meet.

– My feelings toward first semester, in an incoherent and structurally unsound paragraph.

I think the adjustment to college can always be challenging, but there are definitely ways to distinguish college life from your high school experience. And write that essay!!
