For our NY Times project our group chose to write about finance articles. First of all, these articles are quite easy to find and various financial news are constantly reported. Furthermore, the majority of people attend Baruch to end up in the Zicklin School of Business. Reading and choosing these articles gave me a good insight into how the financial world works and how different actions a company takes can affect its stock price. Because of this, I now feel that I have a basic understanding of finance which in turn will help me with future classes.

I found the enrichment workshop to be very interesting and intriguing. Ever since I was young, I enjoyed visiting art museums and galleries. I was surprised to learn that we had an art gallery at the Mason Hall. Initially, I was excited to see what kinds of art the hall would have, but I was disappointed by the size of it. Although I knew I should have not expected much, I was taken aback because it was only a mere room with a few walls to create sections. Despite my disappointment, I tried to appreciate the few pieces they did have. I enjoyed the theme of photography art because I believe it is an understated form of art. The woman (whom I forgot the name of) that guided us through the gallery was a professional in photography art and selected many of the pieces that were displayed. She was obviously very passionate about art which inspired me because I hope to find a career path that engages my interests as well. My favorite pieces were the ones included in the theme of landscaping and the human body. In this section, there were photos of landscapes alongside photos of the human body. The purpose of this, the woman explained, was to reflect how beautiful the nature of the human body is and how in a way, it is also like a landscape. This visit touched me because I was inspired by the effort to keep the appreciation for art alive.

My first semester at Baruch has been–in one word–tiring. Surprisingly enough, the workload hasn’t been too terrible though. In the beginning, I was strongly considering transferring schools and trying to decide whether or not to stay became a very stressful everyday conflict. I’m glad that I decided to dorm rather than commuting from Long Island everyday, but even so, on the 15-20 minute subway ride home everyday I find my eyes closing and my mind wandering to netlix movies and my bed. Other than being sleep deprived and wanting nothing more than to go home and go to sleep every day after school, I have actually really enjoyed my first semester. Like this picture, my experience has been tiring, but also pleasant, (what’s more pleasant than a sleeping puppy)!? I’ve met really awesome people and have made good friends and I’m really looking forward to all that is to come–except for the loads of work and even more tiredness that i’ll have to face.

My first three months at Baruch were tiring. I have not been this tired since the first month of senior year in high school. I am so tired that I usually forget where I am at and what class I have next. I also forget where my class is located. Every time I am in a classroom I look at the clock. I just want each class to end and go home because of how tired I am. This makes me lose focus and because I am tired I have no time to study for tests. Luckily I passed every single test I took.

I feel that my first few months at Baruch were very fun and had a lot of meaning. There wasn’t too much work to do other than the nights I had to write my papers because of procrastination. I was also able to meet a lot of new people in my block. I attached a picture of coffee because i felt that I had been drinking a lot of it after going to Baruch due to how tired I was in the morning. Not really because of how much work there was to do but how late I decided to begin them. Overall Baruch has been a very fun and worthwhile experience for me.

My first few months at Baruch have gone by incredibly fast. I have enjoyed them and the work load has not been extreme at all which has been nice. Some of my professors have seemed somewhat out of it while others have really made it an enjoyment. I have enjoyed finding new places to eat and meeting new people. Moreover i have enjoyed being able to learn new things as well as having improved in certain areas like studying, which could still use some more work. For the next few weeks i would like to put in a little more effort than i have been, hopefully allowing me to do well on my finals and upcoming projects. all in all i have been satisfied with my first few months at Baruch and i hope that continues. Due to my satisfied first few months i decided to attach a “thumbs up”.

My first three months at Baruch have been an easy transition from high school thanks to the block schedule. It’s given me the chance to adjust to the college environment and make friends with the people in my classes. I definitely feel more independent and confident now that I’m in college. My future is in my own hands from here. I haven’t had trouble with any class in particular, but that’s not to say that the workload isn’t heavier than in high school. There is a lot more homework and keeping up with deadlines. The commute is really getting monotonous and I miss sleep…A LOT. And I’ve gotten to try a lot of food places around the school that I wouldn’t have otherwise. But the one thing that I can’t seem to get over is procrastinating. I will tell myself I’m going to start something early, but then manage to distract myself with something else (like Johnny is). This is the reason I usually lose sleep; because I decide to do an essay last minute or study last minute. This is a REALLY bad habit that I’ve realized needs to be broken very soon because college is no joke. You have to stay on top of your things in order to succeed. But otherwise, I’ve enjoyed being a part of everything Baruch has to offer and I hope that it gets better.

Most of my classes are fairly easy. I feel like the professors are decent and know how to teach. However, there are two classes that I just begin to stress myself over a lot. This picture represents me because everything I learn in class, I understand. I feel like the information given is not hard to process at all. As soon as I come home, I take about 30-45 minutes to go over what I did in math and try understand the purpose of the lesson. However when it comes to the test, I panic and feel as if the things we were taught in class was a complete waste. In high school, it was much easier to get a hold of your teacher and be able to clearly ask them the questions you wanted to be answered. In college this is not the case because with my schedule so tight, it is hard to stay after class to ask few questions. I definitely know that I should at least have some time between my classes for questions or concerns. My business test is one of those tests that I study so hard for, but end up doing very bad in. I don’t want my GPA to go down. I am thinking of working twice as hard and getting to those high grades I am trying to strive for.

It was fairly easy to adjust to Baruch college because the block schedule is similar to my high school schedule. But with the semester being a lot shorter than my high school one, I find myself cramming for exams often. I know it is a bad habit of mines and I’m trying to get rid of it but with so much to study and not enough time I find myself falling behind in one of my classes. However, this time I’m hoping to study beforehand and pick up my grade. This clock signifies how fast these three months flew by. Time is always ticking and if I don’t use it wisely, I’m going to waste my time doing nothing. But I’m determined to find a good study habit and do well in all my classes. Overall, these three months has been okay, I was able to make friends by working in the school as well as interacting with my classmates. The library and computer lab are great places to study in and I always find myself spending hours there just to study or to kill time. I hope with the variety of opportunities Baruch provides, I will be able to gain experience that will help me out when it’s time to face the real world.
