1 Semester Down….

Everest

I think this picture captures my feelings after my 1st semester at Baruch. I’ve done a good amount of work, but there is so much more left to do before I reach the summit. The first semester wasn’t easy, there were a few difficult parts (math class) but for the most part it was a good experience. There’s still at least another 3 and a half years of college to get through, and I can’t say I’ve reached the summit until then. But this semester was good, I made new friends, took some interesting courses, and got settled in to the college life rather quickly. It wasn’t the overwhelming experience I had feared. Freshman Seminar really made things much easier and helped me get my feet underneath me during the first couple of weeks. I’m looking forward to the next semester and hope my time at Baruch continues to improve. As long as I keep up with my work, I think I’ll be able to enjoy college and not be absolutely miserable.

Falling Asleep in Class

When college first started, I was extremely motivated to do well and try my hardest to achieve a 4.0 GPA. I still am motivated to do well, but definitely not as much as when college began. As we got further into the semester, I realized how boring some of my classes can be; such as Art History and Psychology. It became very hard for me to stay awake in those classes. Coffee barely helps. I feel tired, drained and as if there was a force dragging me down. I never fell asleep in class throughout high school, so it was different to me when I started falling asleep in college. All of a sudden when class ended, I would feel bursts of energy as I walked out the door. I would socialize with great energy as if I wasn’t tired throughout the whole class. This is very strange to me! This “meme” perfectly demonstrates how I’ve been feeling in class since college started. Overall, I’ve been doing well in school despite falling asleep in class. I made such amazing friends, mostly people from my block! I’ve had a fantastic experience at Baruch so far! I couldn’t have asked for a better first semester and I cannot wait to experience what’s to come in the next four years.

College

Seriously. Honestly, I did not realize how much I would have to pay for college. Can you relate? I’m constantly broke. I thought that the classes would be the most annoying thing. I’ve heard that college classes are much harder than high school. So far, it’s pretty much the same. Most of my professors are really cool, so I guess that helps. But paying for books, food, commute and classes was ridiculously annoying. It makes me wonder how people at universities are dealing with it… But otherwise it’s okay. I was afraid that I’d constantly get lost but I have not had any problems with that. Midterms week went okay. Other than constantly running out of money, I think I need to work on time management. I tend to procrastinate a lot. Studying the night before doesn’t work in college. That’s about it.

Just Keep Walking

This represents my time at Baruch perfectly. Half of the time I am on the wrong floor and I don’t notice at all. The important thing is to just act like you got off on the right floor and get out of the elevator!  So far I am enjoying my experience at Baruch. I have met alot of new people and friends, which makes makes the transition coming here much easier. Although my work hasn’t been too hard, I still have to work on my time management skills and not saving everything for the last minute. I also hate how much money I have been spending on food. Other than that I am excited to get more involved and see what is to come for next semester!

doesnt do reading

This sums up my experience here at Baruch pretty well. I thought college was going to be harder & more stressful than what it has turned out to be. I think that my senior year in high school was actually more stressful, and that I had a larger world then. I can’t ben count the amount of times i have forgotten about assignments and still managed to make it seem as if I had done the reading LOL. I think that’s also because my professors this semester are quite nice, some a little weird, but hey everyone can’t be normal & that would be boring anyway. Next semester I’m definitely taking an extra class & trying to cut down the number of days that I will spend here in the school because the commute is a pain. Aside from it being easier that I thought it would be, everything else here is sort of alright… I think that’s enough complaining for one blog post LOL.
