Hi, My Name Is…

rm158327 on Sep 25th 2013

Slim Shady. Nah, in all seriousness my name’s Ryan, I’m 18 years old and live in Floral Park, NY (It’s in Long Island). If I could explain myself in a paragraph it would go like this: My hobbies include shooting rifles, working on and discussing various cars and motorcycles, and scuba diving shipwrecks to coral reefs. Of course like any normal teenager I also enjoy videogames, hanging out, TV, the internet (Facebook, Youtube and Instagram mainly) and of course general recklessness. I have no real idea what I want to do with my life, I do know however that I would like to join the United States Marine Corps at some point. I also would like to travel the world in an unconventional sense, while most people would like to see the world from the comfort of a hotel room, I want to get into the grit, such as the Amazon basin and the top of Mt. Everest. As for movies and music it’s almost anything under the sun, as long as I like it I will listen to it. Some of my favorite artists include Nirvana, Jedi Mind Tricks, Sublime, Kendrick Lamar, Rolling Stones and I can go on and on. Movies I primarily love are Fight Club, Oceans 11-13, Full Metal Jacket, The Bourne Trilogy, Jurassic Park, Inception and many more. In my spare time I enjoy reading alone in silence as its relaxing for me and may hammer out 300 pages in a day. As for school I like History and Science but despise English and Math. I never really got into organized sports as I would have liked, however handball and pickup football are some of my favorites. If I could choose a major it would be History. Well I could keep on going but you guys got the basis. If any of you actually read this far down I’d be surprised. Thanks for reading.

My Photos

Hi, my name is Delia Wu, and I came to Baruch from a not very well-known school, East-West School of International Studies. I had a small graduating class of ninety-five Seniors, and a handful of these kids came to Baruch College as well. One of them is also in this class; you may know her by the name of Gabby.

I was raised by my grandmother because my parents were often too busy to look after me. I lived with her  in China when I was very young, but it was only for a brief amount of time. We both moved in with my parents in New York  permanently when I was at the age of four.

One of my favorite days is my eighteenth birthday. That was the first time I was able to have all my friends gather around and hang out.

In the picture with the two polaroid photos are my best friends and me. We have been a fairly tight clique since the beginning of high school. We are still very close even though we have separated and went to different colleges.

I grew up with two older sisters. My oldest sister is a nurse, a model, and the winner of several beauty pageants. She is twelve years older than me, and ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be more like her. My other sister is still in school at CUNY Queens College, and she’s studying to become a math teacher. My sisters and I all look and act very differently. The only thing we have in common is probably our stubbornness.

I spent the Summer of 2012 helping out political leaders in their campaigns. It was pretty much just standing out in the streets and helping people register to vote. I spent this Summer working at Subway, the sandwich shop. I actually worked six days a week for the entire summer, but now that I started school, I had to cut down to only three days.

A little about Marta

MARTA on Sep 25th 2013

Hello there, my name is Marta & I am a seventeen year old freshman at Baruch (as you guys know already). I graduated from Murry Bergtraum High School, & while in High School i tried to take advantage of all of the programs I could. I liked to get involved, so I was elected as the President of my schools student government, i participated in the National Honor Society, and I spent alot of my time playing sports. I was the Varsity Volleyball co-captain, and this was probably my favorite part of high school because volleyball was and is still my passion. When i need a break from school and everything else, me and my bestfriends go out and play volleyball.

Volleyball Practice

My best friends mean the world to me. My best-est friend is Sophie, we met in Volleyball Practice the first week of freshman year in High School, and we have been inseperable since. She is like a sister, and when people see us one without the other they usually think something is wrong, that’s how close we are. She is my other half, my friend for life and though we fight like no tomorrow, I can’t imagine myself without her.

Sophie and I

Aside from sports, I spend a lot of time drawing and painting. It is something that i find to be enjoyable and something I have always been good at. When I was younger I actually wanted to study fashion design, but somehow I ended up deciding to study business. Although I may not be designing clothes or making them, i do love fashion. I think that fashion is just a piece of history that repeats itself because most of the time what is in “style” was in style at one point in time prior to now. And I also help out my friends, who study photography, by being their model for many of their photoshoots.

& some more art LOL

My internship at a Fashion House   I intern at a fashion house, and i love it! It is like a dream job of mine, and to be able to experience that now is amazing!

I am a big family person, and i accredit this to the fact that i have 5 siblings. I have an older brother (age 29), a younger sister (age 12) and three younger brothers ( twins age 9, and the youngest is age 6). None of my siblings live with me, the eldest lives on his own and my younger siblings live in Poland with my dad. The good thing about that is that i have an excuse to go hoe, to Poland, as often as I can. I love spending my time there, I was born there and it feels like home. I remember being little and always being in my yard with my grandparents, talking and listening to their childhood stories, its memories like that that i cherish the most.

Little Brother and I acting like fools

Being that I am from Poland, i spend alot of time there, and most of that time isn’t spent in the city. Although I am from Warsaw (the countries capitol city, and largest city), I spend alot of time at my dad’s country home which is located far from the urban setting. Because of this I learned to absolutely LOVE nature. Don’t get me wrong, I love New York and the city life, but I much rather be in the country, somewhere in the woods, or even on a far (LOL). And if you ever catch me on the farm, you can probably find me with my horse (I love horses!!!!!), his name is Rocco.

Say hi to Rocoo

General Things About Me!

gr156728 on Sep 25th 2013

Hi everyone! It’s Gabby here, or more formally known as Gabrielle Ru. You can click here for my playlist (it’s on Spotify).  I generally listen to a lot of indie rock bands, but I’m really open to all sorts of genres. My playlist is always changing since my taste always is. But my current favorite bands would have to be Walk the Moon, Two Door Cinema Club, and Imagine Dragons!

My hobbies can include reading (books, comics, manga), watching shows/movies, sleeping, and eating. Seriously, those four things are literally all I do. Once you get me talking about any one of those things, it’ll be hard for me to stop. I’m currently reading Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton because I really love the movie and I thought I should read the book! As for comics, I’m following a few super hero ones (like Hawkeye, Wonder Woman, and Thor) and a few that don’t have anything to do with heroes (American Vampire, The Wake, Saga). One major manga that I’m caught up on and that’s really popular right now is Attack on Titan, which is pretty good. I’m currently waiting on way too many shows right now but I’ve started watching Community and Agents of Shield and I can’t wait for the third season of American Horror Story to come out!

To talk a bit about my background in general, well I come from Flushing, Queens. I have two sisters, Danielle and Arielle (we all end in -ielle), who are four and two years older than me respectively. I live with my mom, Danielle, Arielle, and Danielle’s boyfriend. We’re a little odd but it works!  I went to the same school all through middle and high school and one of my closest friends from there is currently here in this class with me! Delia and I have been friends since 7th grade. I also have other friends from my school currently attending Baruch but I don’t have any classes with them. My commute to my previous school was always really easy, never more than thirty minutes but usually less than twenty depending on the bus, so commuting to the city is a challenge but I kind of enjoy it! I hope my first year will go well with new experiences, new friends, and new opportunities!

Hi

sk156825 on Sep 25th 2013

I’m Sarah and this is my playlist–

http://www.nextvid.com/806440/playlists/sb89b3436-249f-11e3-8e85-08facf1f2b7b.aspx?t=pl&a=sb89b3436-249f-11e3-8e85-08facf1f2b7b

Hi! I am from Brooklyn and I listen to music that is good. Generally, this means nothing made in the past ten years. I’m only joking. But honestly, I do not have a single genre that I constantly listen to. Other than music, I enjoy reading, drawing, video games, music, biking and watching tv. Also, I love movies. There are so many great examples that trying to list a few wouldn’t do it justice. Generally though, I don’t really like movies that were based off of books. There may be a few exceptions, but I prefer the book to the movie. I like hanging out with my friends and even though it’s really cliché, I want to travel. I’ve always wanted to stop by England. Not because of the scenery, it’s mostly always foggy, but because most of the tv shows/books I love originated from there. I love Coldplay. They are awesome. Also, AC/DC and Bon Jovi. A recent band that I happen to like is Imagine Dragons. They have some nice songs, and I thought that the music video they made for Radioactive was pretty cool. Dancing Lotus, a British (I think… I’m not really sure lol) band is also pretty recent. They have some pretty epic songs too. Obviously, Queen is Queen. No explanation is needed for them. Ever. Billy Joel is cool too. He has a nice voice. It’s really nice to listen to an artist who does not use autotune. I don’t listen to much of Snow Patrol, but I love their song- Chasing Cars. As for The Reaper—it needs more cowbell. I think music helps keep me from going mad. I use it as a background for homework, studying and most things school related. Also the annoyingly long commute to and back from school is balanced out by my songs. That’s my story, pretty much.

Steven’s Playlist

http://play.spotify.com/user/128760617/playlist/0pbdYaBIauiuAdSrjozKuJ

My playlist is all over the place. Have some 90’s rap music, some 60’s rock, some alternative, and some EDM/Dubstep/ whatever the kids call it these days. My musical taste is kinda odd, I don’t really dislike any type of music other than country and that death metal stuff. I’m open to different types of music, which reflects my personality because I like to try new things. The songs in the playlist describe parts of my life recently. Some more literal than others. But songs like “Stuck in the Middle with You” and “Under the Bridge” reflect the period of college before I made any friends and I was just kinda “stuck” here. “Memories” is remembering all the good times of high school. “Time to Pretend” is the tale of growing up and missing childhood. “Feelin Alright” and “Express Yourself” are songs that talk about being yourself and easing into a groove which I feel I finally achieved at Baruch. “New York Groove” is about seeing the city and I get to see the city everyday now. The other songs are just some songs I like that don’t really have any significant meaning other than I enjoy them.

The other Kristina :)

ks153608 on Sep 25th 2013

Hi guys! My name is Kristina Sarkissyan and I was born in Kazakhstan.  As you can tell from this picture, it gets extremely cold in the winter.  I chose this picture because it represents my home country, although I’m Armenian and Russian! As a child I loved to play outside, whether it be the snow, rain, or sun.  I moved to America at the age of five and I have only been back to Kazakhstan once since at the age of seven.

Since I started to live in Long Island, I have had the privilege of being surrounded by the beach.  Kazakhstan is a very mountainous, therefore I have realized how lucky it is too live 5 minutes away from the beach!  Every summer my friends, family and I just enjoy the beach and I am extremely thankfully for have that convenience in my life!

Traveling is an extremely important part of my life.  I cannot picture staying in one place for a long time.  I absolutely love the airport, it is my favorite place to be! However my favorite location that I have traveled to was Spain.  I absolutely fell in love with the country and culture.  For this reason, I would love to minor in Spanish!

Dancing has always been a part of my life.  I cannot picture myself without have the freedom of expression through movement.  I began dancing at the age of four in Kazakhstan.  My first styles of dance were ballet and ballroom.  For the last two years of high school,  I joined a dance competition team at On The Edge Performance Center in Long Island where I primarily danced hip-hop and technical (jazz, contemporary, ballet).  I made an amazing family with my teammates and I miss dancing so much! I still try to take dance classes in my free time here in the city!

My 14 year-old brother, Arthur and I have a love-hate relationship, but he is one of the closest people to me in my life.  We rarely fight and I’m so glad to have such an amazing intelligent brother.  I sometimes forget his age because he his so wise, yet I can still act like a child with him.

My parents are the most important people to me in my life.  They have done everything in their power to ensure that my brother and I have the best lives possible, therefore I am extremely grateful for everything they have done for us! I would not be where I am today without their support, advice, and encouragement.

I have had the same group of friends since I moved to schools in 6th grade.  However, in my last two years of high school we’ve gotten even closer and stronger! My cousin Mariam (white dress) is my best friend in the whole world! We actually hated each other for about 2 years, but now she is the closest person to me in my life! Also my last two years of high school I made amazing friends at dance.  My friends mean so much to me and I’m glad I can visit them whenever I’d like!

The most recent part of my life is here at Baruch! I am currently living in Brooklyn Heights (the below is the view) and developing amazing friendships with these girls! I chose not to stay in Long Island so I would be able to encounter more diversity, since I absolutely love learning about new cultures! I have dreamt about receiving an education in NYC my whole life and I am so grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to see how my journey here unfolds!

Brian Who ?

Anybody who knows me knows I’m a joker, always entertaining. If there’s ever a boring situation I always try to turn it into something interesting, something lively. Even when I’m around people I don’t know such as at parties, I’m always able to become acquainted with them easily. I think it’s because I usually assume people have good intentions, which is why I’m not afraid to be friendly towards them. In this picture, last year during my senior year in class I was singing to my friend because she was feeling down, (I’m an okay singer haha). But although the singing wasn’t great, she felt a lot happier for the simple reason I was able to entertain her.

image

Another thing people immediately realize about is I love to dress. I hate labels, so I try my best to dress in a variety of ways that look great no matter how they’re put together. I feel that the way you dress should be a representation of YOU, not something you saw in a magazine. Although originality is scarce in today’s society, everyone should still strive to keep their style unique. This photo was taken by my friends house, I was wearing a tank top, flat front khaki shorts, and my south beach Lebron 9s.

image

I LOVE TO PARTY. Everything about it, socializing, dancing, the hype and craziness, can’t get enough of it.

image

A sort of obsession I have (or used to have) is sneakers. The tan shoes in the photo are called tan yeezys, and brand new are worth about 2 Grand. Yes I’m a fiend haha.

image

I absolutely love playing pool. My friends and I used to go once sometimes twice a week to the pool hall, it was sort of our guy hangout thing. If I had the space in my house I would have a pool table already, it’s a hobby I’ve just grown to love.

image

I guess I could say I’m sort of athletic. I love playing basketball, it keeps me pretty fit and a great hobby. This picture was of my friends  and I playing at Yellowstone park in forest hills.

image

Another sport I enjoy is swimming, it’s an exercise that works every part of your body, for some serious conditioning.

image

One thing many people don’t know about me is I like to dance. I always paid attention to the choreographical aspect of music, and soon enough when I realized I had a few moves of my own, I started just taking it to another level!

About Me

Julia Lo on Sep 24th 2013

Hey guys, my name is Julia Lo and I’m eighteen years old. Here are some pictures that describe who I am.

I moved to Great Neck in third grade and went to Lakeville, Great Neck South Middle and High School which is in Long Island.

I'm the youngest of the family and these are my older siblings. My brother is 25 years old, in the army and is currently stationed in Korea. My sister is 20 years old and is currently studying at Stony Brook. Although we're always separated, we are really close and call each other at least once a week.

I’m the youngest of the family and these are my older siblings. My brother is 25 years old, in the army and is currently stationed in Korea. My sister is 20 years old and is currently studying at Stony Brook. Although we’re always separated, we are really close and call each other at least once a week.

One of my many hobbies is photography. Photography has always been a shared interest in the family because my dad is a photographer and growing up, he always encouraged us to take pictures and make memories. This is a snippet of my portfolio for my AP Photography class, my concentration was light and none of these pictures were photoshopped.

I’ve always been really passionate about dancing, although I don’t dance seriously. Dancing has always been a way for me to express myself, relieve stress and just be myself. I love learning new dances and performing although I get crazy stage fright.

On weekends, I work as a waitress in a sushi restaurant called Era. Although the work is hard, I would never give it up for any other job because I love all of my coworkers. We get mad at each other when someone messes up and we tease each other but in the end, we’re still family.

These are some of my closest friends, Joonho, Tim, Richard and Jordan. These are people who have always been there for me and I know that even though we might not always be close, I will never forget them.

I’ve always liked to bake, although I wouldn’t consider myself very good at it. This is a picture of cupcakes that I made a couple of weeks ago. Even though I bake a lot, I never try anything I make because I’m not a big fan of sweets.

Even though I only joined the team for my junior and senior year of high school, Badminton is one of my favorite sports. Being on the badminton team was a very important high school experience for me because it allowed me to be more involved and make new friends. I liked that even though we played competitively against each other, we could all still be good friends and be mess around. I’m hoping to continue playing in the future.

Thank you for reading. 🙂

Hi there ^_^

ms159021 on Sep 24th 2013

Hey I’m Marlon.  I’m eighteen and from Queens. These are just a few photos that I think represent the essential things in my life. Excuse my derp faces.

food

This picture makes me hungry.  Food is probably my favorite thing in the world. Its way beyond eating to survive. I consider food an art. So many different flavors, colors, and textures. Its definitely a beautiful thing.  My favorite foods are probably waffles, pancakes, steak, and sushi.

I also really like barbecuing.  Its way more satisfying when you prepare it yourself.

friends

These are two of my closest friends, Amy and Asheley. I’ve known Amy for about four years and Asheley for about six.  I see quite a lot since we go to school in the city. I don’t want this to get too mushy but I definitely adore them. 🙂

photography

I have a love-hate relationship with photography.  Sometimes I feel artsy, so I take my camera out on a random day take a picture like the one above. In my senior year of high school I was a yearbook photographer, so I had to have my camera every single day. It got tiring, so I guess I’m on a bit of a break.

pool

This is one of the pools I work at in Bayside. I took this on the fire escape while setting up a volleyball net.  The residents didn’t really know how to react.  This was the first pool I worked at, which also turned out to be my first real job. I’m in my second year of lifeguarding so a lot has changed from my first day. I’ve had a few saves here as well as some arguments with rowdy pool-goers. I spent just about everyday of the summer here and I can honestly say I love it. I have a bad habit of forgetting my whistle at home, so I decided to put it on my keys and that’s why I always have that red lanyard hanging out of my pocket.

sleep

Of course I’m not sleeping in class…I was simply closing my eyes.  I don’t think people realize how important a good night of sleep is.  I’m not a morning person so anything less than 8 hours of sleep for me leaves me cranky and prone to “closing my eyes” in class.

This is my baby, Gizmo. I’ve had him since the third grade.  Anyone with a pet knows that after a while, they become part of the family.  He’s my alarm clock, since he gets really loud when the sun comes up.  He’s also like my doorman since he stretches his wings and makes some sort of noise when I walk in the house. Its kind of like he’s saying hi.

Whenever people ask me what my name is, I say “Marlin, like the fish!”  Its an easy way to remember it but then they think my name is spelled Marlin, which sucks.  This is my old swim team hoodie.  Swimming is sort of my thing.  I’ve only been swimming for about two years and I’m no Phelps, but its definitely something I love. I swim for Baruch (woo Bearcats!) so I have something to look forward to.  I feel like it motivates me to stay healthy and to keep my grades up.
