Hi guys! My name is Kristina Sarkissyan and I was born in Kazakhstan.  As you can tell from this picture, it gets extremely cold in the winter.  I chose this picture because it represents my home country, although I’m Armenian and Russian! As a child I loved to play outside, whether it be the snow, rain, or sun.  I moved to America at the age of five and I have only been back to Kazakhstan once since at the age of seven.

Since I started to live in Long Island, I have had the privilege of being surrounded by the beach.  Kazakhstan is a very mountainous, therefore I have realized how lucky it is too live 5 minutes away from the beach!  Every summer my friends, family and I just enjoy the beach and I am extremely thankfully for have that convenience in my life!

Traveling is an extremely important part of my life.  I cannot picture staying in one place for a long time.  I absolutely love the airport, it is my favorite place to be! However my favorite location that I have traveled to was Spain.  I absolutely fell in love with the country and culture.  For this reason, I would love to minor in Spanish!

Dancing has always been a part of my life.  I cannot picture myself without have the freedom of expression through movement.  I began dancing at the age of four in Kazakhstan.  My first styles of dance were ballet and ballroom.  For the last two years of high school,  I joined a dance competition team at On The Edge Performance Center in Long Island where I primarily danced hip-hop and technical (jazz, contemporary, ballet).  I made an amazing family with my teammates and I miss dancing so much! I still try to take dance classes in my free time here in the city!

My 14 year-old brother, Arthur and I have a love-hate relationship, but he is one of the closest people to me in my life.  We rarely fight and I’m so glad to have such an amazing intelligent brother.  I sometimes forget his age because he his so wise, yet I can still act like a child with him.

My parents are the most important people to me in my life.  They have done everything in their power to ensure that my brother and I have the best lives possible, therefore I am extremely grateful for everything they have done for us! I would not be where I am today without their support, advice, and encouragement.

I have had the same group of friends since I moved to schools in 6th grade.  However, in my last two years of high school we’ve gotten even closer and stronger! My cousin Mariam (white dress) is my best friend in the whole world! We actually hated each other for about 2 years, but now she is the closest person to me in my life! Also my last two years of high school I made amazing friends at dance.  My friends mean so much to me and I’m glad I can visit them whenever I’d like!

The most recent part of my life is here at Baruch! I am currently living in Brooklyn Heights (the below is the view) and developing amazing friendships with these girls! I chose not to stay in Long Island so I would be able to encounter more diversity, since I absolutely love learning about new cultures! I have dreamt about receiving an education in NYC my whole life and I am so grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to see how my journey here unfolds!
