Upon entering the Mishkin I had not expected the gallery to consist of photographs. I expected more classic pieces, but was delighted with the different style that I was exposed to. I’m interested in photography and appreciated the artistic pieces more than the historic ones, personally. The woman who had led us through the exhibit was interesting , however she took really long to make her points. Overall I was impressed and enjoyed the experience more than some.

My First Semester

I came to many realizations about people and life as a whole this first semester at Baruch. This relates to professors, students, friends, family, and others as well as tasks and situations. Although we all have this cliche set in our minds and have heard it time after time, I’ve gone through some experiences that seriously have shaped my view of the saying. Things/people really are not as they may initially seem. On the school spectrum it affected my grades greatly. Although i’ve learned this lesson too far in the game for this semester, I realized that rather than trying to fight the system for how “evil” and “irrelevant” it may seem, there are ways to work it to my advantage. I learned that perseverance really is the key to success and that no matter how much I find an assignment unnecessary or ridiculous, it will not go away until I set my mind to it and actually spend the time to deal with it. I have learned to peel away my judgements of many things and what I may see on the surface of them and do as I should in getting myself results that suit my approach, good if not great ones. I also learned this with my peers. Recently I’ve been able to look at all of my fellow students surrounding me in completely new ways and peel the judgements I had initially made about them. They weren’t necessarily bad, but more-so hollow and simplistic. I got to take a personal look into people’s mannerisms and hear more about their lives outside of school, quirks, insecurities, passions, and more. People are not as simple as they seem. I’ve learned to peel past the easy assumptions that one can make, and formulate more productive and valid. I was extremely discouraged this semester but I won’t give up. I’m happy with my new friends that i’m making in all different places; LC09, WBMB Radio, socially, etc. I am happy with my new work ethic that I unfortunately began to adapt to very late in the game, and I’m proud of my new awareness of myself and those around me. This semester was a huge turning point in my life, but I think i’m headed in a great direction. I’ll keep working on it and i’ll keep peeling those initial layers until I get to the wholesome centers.
Homework Problem – Jennifer Rubinshteyn
Dear Ms. Trapani,
I am emailing you in regards to the homework assignment that you announced today. I’m having trouble figuring out solutions to various problems. I would be very interested in seeing you during your office hours between 4 and 5 (whatever time is most comfortable for you). Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Jennifer Rubinshteyn – A Small Look Into Me
Hey guys! Here are some pictures that will hopefully give you a taste of who I am and the things that i’m into !
This up here is my dorm room. I’m from Brooklyn so i’m fairly close to Baruch, but I really wanted to start to live somewhat on my own and of course, away from home as most kids do. I wouldn’t change my decision for the world. There are some trippy posters, a backlight, hello kitty toys / memorabilia everywhere, an animal print blanket, a keep calm and rave on poster, a tie dye tapestry with fractals, a lotus flower, and buddha in the center, and my beautiful dancer hoop hanging above it (i’m learning the art of hoop dancing).
Here is my best friend Nicole. She lives in New Jersey but we still manage to see one another at LEAST once a month and do everything together from job applications, to shopping, to studying, to raving, etc. She is an inspiration to me in many ways and will continue to inspire me until the day we part.
Here is my other best friend and boyfriend Christian. I will say that we are the absolute best at making the most horrid faces you will ever see. I’ve chosen to showcase this (extremely partially/mildly) in some pictures. In short for now, I love him more than I love myself. I don’t want to go into my feelings here but if you guys are interested in hearing my sappy thoughts than feel free to ask me I looove talking about him.
Here are some photos of me at events (or raves if you wish). The first is of me and my friend Michael Wolf who I met through video chat and have been friends with ever since. The second is simply me showing off my arms of bracelets. In both pictures you can see that I’m wearing plastic beaded jewelry. These pieces are made by ravers and traded. They’re called “kandi”. You can make simple single bracelets and other pieces or more elaborate 3 dimensional things like the ones on my arms in the picture of me. They represent something called PLUR. An acronym standing for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. Ravers make them and wear them to events and give them away to their friends and strangers that they meet for many reasons. They represent a piece of your time and creativity that is then passed on to others. You can also see that in both pictures i’m wearing “weird” costumes. I’m very into costuming, cosplay, and other eccentric outfits.
I own a small individual company entitled ElectriCITY Gogo Wear and Costume Service. It started off with me simply making Gogo dancer outfits with bras, hotpants, underwear, skirts, boot covers, and other crazy pieces and was called ElectriCITY Bras. Now I am branching out into costumes as a whole and include makeup, hair, and other costume pieces in my services. I am at Baruch for this reason. It is my goal to take this business and make it into a touring costuming company that Costumes and does hair & makeup for everything from gogo dancers to circus acts to burlesque. I want to own and make this company successful. The first picture is of my boyfriend and I behind my vendors table at a rave that I sold my bras at recently. The second is a picture of one of the bra/headband sets i’ve made. (EDC stands for Electric Daisy Carnival – a huge electronic dance music festival)
Above is a sample of some of the makeup looks that i’ve done.
Last, but most DEFINITELY not least, my friends. Here are some pictures of my friends and I. I love them with all of my heart and just from these few pictures you can get a taste of how absolutely insane we all are. Eccentric is not even the word, simply insane. We have the most absolutely crazy stories and always adventure together doing the dumbest and wildest things. Aside from the crazyness, they are the most loving and accepting group of people I know. What I adore about them most is how accepting they are of everyone around them and how fantastic their vibes are. They can make anyone into their friend and that is phenomenal. We’re just a family of what some would call “new age hippies”.
(P.S.: Sorry this is so late. I did some extra work on it.)
