My reaction when connecting to the school wi-fi. I think we all have a love-hate relationship with the school’s wi-fi. when it works, it’s the most glorious thing in the world, but when it doesn’t, it becomes the bane of our entire existence.
Overall, my experience here at Baruch has been a positive one. I’ve had an awesome Freshman Orientation class, an awesome Peer mentor (looking at you, Sammy) and I’ve made lots of friends. We’ve had a couple iffy teachers, but ya know, it happens, and we just keep moving forward. So thanks, all you guys in LC18, who’ve made for an awesome first term of freshman year. Best of luck in the future and I know you guys are going to do great!

Visiting the Mishkin Art Gallery was a really unique experience. I’m not the most up-to-date art connoisseur, but I do enjoy viewing pieces of art from time to time. Theresa Bernstein’s art was interesting to say the least. It wasn’t my type of art per say, but I did enjoy the experience of traveling through the art gallery with our highly educated tour guide. The visit to the gallery made me realize that our lives are more than just going to school for a business degree. And that there is always time for art. Hell, Bernstein had over 100 years of proving just that!

NYTimes Project: Enviroment

Enviroment
by Roy Choi

My group for the New York Times project decided to tackle the topic of the environment on a college, city, national and international level. We knew just how important and prevalent the topic had become and were all eager to tackle the bountiful press coverage of the environment. We decided to distribute the workload evenly amongst all our group members in order to maximize efficiency and get the widest span of views we could attain. My articles focused on the new building of an environmental project within the city, the controversy behind hydraulic fracturing and the so-called “fertilizer war happening in Eastern Europe. I chose these topics because they seemed to cover a large field of environmental concerns currently going on in society. All of these articles were known to me beforehand and having at least some background knowledge in the various concentrations, I was able to be fully engaged with the articles and learn an amalgam of new information.

I found the topic of the environment to be especially exciting because of this new craze to “go green.” As a Boy Scout, and a mild environmental enthusiast, I’m both excited and proud that sweeping changes are occurring on not only a global scale, but also on a national and city level. I was especially fascinated by the arguments introduced in the article of “fracking.” While it’s always seemed so clear-cut and dry, it was a new take on an otherwise controversial issue and has led to my taking a deeper concern into the environment and our jobs as stewards of the Earth; to not only be completely knowledgeable on all topics environmental, but to make sure to be involved in its affairs as well.

The Life of Roy

The first row of pictures are important organizations that I belong to and claim my identity with. For years, I’ve been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic church. Over the years, I’ve learned dedication, perseverance, faith in myself and in others. With all my ever changing habits and interests, these two have stayed constant throughout my life.

The next row of pictures are my two biggest influences from high school. High School was a time when I really discovered my interests, the way I think, and the people who I surrounded myself with. As a lacrosse player, eventually a captain of the team, I was a proud member of a team that worked for each other and gave their all for each other. It was where I discovered leadership and created friendships that remain to this day. But at the tech crew of the Stuyvesant Theater Community, that was where my real “family” was. It was a group of my closest friends, who essentially were my second family. We worked through stressful plays and musicals and building days in order to get our work done. We formed bonds that i don’t think will ever fade. I can honestly say, two of my best friends  were made through the tech crew at Stuyvesant. They are my friends, my brothers and sisters, those guys kept me sane and grounded when the going got rough.

The third row of pictures are my two favorite things at home. My beautiful doggy of nine years, Jeanie, and playing chess. In fact, I do both those things at the same time! Jeanie lays her head on my lap, while i play chess with members of my family. Raising Jeanie for the past few years has taught me responsibility, caring for others and making others a part of the family. Playing chess has taught me about strategy, planning ahead, engaging my mind in stimulating activities and having fun. Being at home has always been eventful and full of excitement for me.

The last row concludes with my favorite media items today. The show Suits is an awesome show. Harvey Specter, the main character, is what every lawyer strives to be. He sets the bar well above everyone’s standards and impresses everyone with his work. His protege Mike Ross, is a genius dropout who got a second chance at life. I like to think I’m a little bit like Mike Ross, haha. It’s an inspiring show, full of witty banter and great character development. And finally, the Lord of the Rings is by far my most favorite movie/book. It’s a fantastical tale of adventure, of heroic deeds, of tragic falls, of the battle between good and evil. For a little boy, Tolkien’s fantasy world drove my imagination wild and kept my mind alive and bright.

And hopefully with those few pictures, you understand a little more about my life. Thanks a lot!
