I always heard college would be extremely different from high school, but for me college has been high school 2.0. I still commute to school and the workload isn’t much more than it used to be. The thing that is different is that I have to be more responsible for my learning. There usually aren’t reminders for assignments and if not planned properly, you could be bombarded with unknown work from multiple classes. After the first 3-4 weeks of college, I got an app for organizing all my work so I am doing a better job of managing my workload. This is a huge improvement for me and I’m thankful to Baruch for that because it has been helping me with other things as well.

College has definitely been great because theres’s less instruction time and so I can go to the gym, read on my own, and do things on my own time. Thanks to this, I have had a pretty good time so far. However, with all of my final exams and papers approaching, I feel as if this smooth sailing will come to an end before the semester does.

Unlike that of high school, a lot of college is being independent, knowing how to time manage and prioritizing the work that you have to do for class. There is not going to be a teacher constantly watching over you, making sure you do your reading that is assigned, and then quizzing you on it. Usually, a teacher tells you to read a certain amount of pages for each night, and then gives you a test on it a few weeks after, of the hundreds of pages that has accumulated over the course of the few weeks. In the beginning of college, whenever teachers assigned me reading to do, I always disregard it as having no homework and through the course of these few months I have learned how important it is to make sure I stay on top of my task and really keep myself organized in order to do everything that I have to in the time allotted.

I think my experience at Baruch so far has been better than I excepted. I didn’t realize that socializing with other people from different countries or different  schools was so casual and easy. Academics was also very casual for me, I realized that homework and studying is something I have to allocate time for and make sure I finish before the deadline rather than have the professor constantly remind me about homework. Something I learned that surprised me was that college is heavily focused on reading, both your notes and the textbook. This meme represents my image of college before and during the beginning of my valuable experience. Through this valuable experience, I learned how to excel academically in college.

Freshman year has been great, it really has. i was able to make new friends with almost minimal effort and i was able to adapt to the Baruch environment almost immediately. everything started out great, I loved getting to classes and participated often and everything. I technically still had my high school mentality through the first month of college. over time i came to realize that college isn’t all that much work. as the semester comes to a close it helped me realize that i don’t need a million notebooks for all the classes, some classes are easy As while there are those classes that actually need an effort to pass.  My experience at Baruch thus far as been amazing and quite a realization. I am starting to manage my priorities, between family, old friends, new friends, school work, and even extra curricular. Cant wait until I get a job, oi vie. I really cant wait for the rest of my Baruch career since i know it will be great as it is surrounded by amazing people and extraordinary opportunities available at my disposal.

My experience in Baruch has been quite exciting, from experiencing going to college for the first time, to meeting new people and starting new hobbies. Almost at the start of my college career I got involved with WBMB the college radio program in Baruch. I started of dj’ing for them, which is what I am good at, and then also started my own radio show, which is very exciting to do, since I always wanted to have one but never had an opportunity. Baruch has many opportunities a person can not get by themselves. Studying for college is completely different then of high school, and it is a bit of a struggle to transition, but that is something I’m progressing in. I hope that ill get as good of a grade as possible, while still exploring different interesting opportunities.

My experience at Baruch so far has been great. The only thing that was hard for me was going to class and realizing that there was going to be a test or quiz that I was not aware of and obviously, did not study for. This is why I made this meme because I would forget to study and not know any of the answers to the questions on the test. My impression of Baruch has been good so far but I realized that in order to do well in my classes, I will have to be more organized and study more often.

This picture really sums up my college experience so far. From the start, I was excited to be able to start and go on a new and exciting adventure and then ace the courses I am taking and get a 4.0 GPA. But as time went on and I made friends, I realized that I was spending a little too much time socializing and that is fine for me. The friends that I made socializing were there for me when I was doing assignments the very period or 30 minutes right before class started, when I needed to cram the last 50 chapters of the course because there was an upcoming final approaching or just there for me when I needed to hang out. The people I met so far in Baruch have been nothing but kind and intelligent and I am proud to have met these people and call them my friends. Now hopefully, I get better time management skills because finals are coming up and I don’t know anything about the upcoming final and anthropology paper but that’s alright because I have the people I have met so far to get through this struggle together.

So far, I’ve found Baruch to be enjoyable. At first I thought that college would be completely different from high school, but it’s really just high school with longer assignments and breaks. If anything, my first worries about about college was whether or not I would be able to meet new people and make friends. But everyone I’ve met so far is sociable and easy to talk to, and I’m happy that I’ve met them. However, my new worries are just the same as everyone else, and that’s my grades. I have a problem with time management and it often results in me lacking sleep, but I think it’s okay because it’s part of the college experience.

If you walk inside the Baruch campus, you will see a sea of college students flowing around.  Looking around, you realize that the campus is always lousy even though most students just look at their cell phones. If you just stand there long enough, you can feel lonely too. Irritated, you try to find someone you know and want to ask if they are having the same feelings. You try but you can’t, so you convince yourself that you will be fine on your own. You tell yourself that independence is what you always wanted even when you were in high school. Taking a deep breath, you walk up the stairs to try to avoid the crowded elevators. Suddenly, you see someone who looks like you, and then you smile secretly to yourself. For some reasons, you know you are not alone. You are just living another day in the college, and you are just trying to figure out what you want to do in your life. At the end of day, you happily walk out of the college. While you walk, you can’t help but look up at the Newman Vertical Building. You do look confuse; you wonder if you can ever be happy in this place for the next few years. You only know yourself and you also know some secrets that others don’t know. As the breeze passes through your face and lift your long hair, you hug yourself tighter. You laugh and wave your hands at the invisible wind, and just keep walking to your destination.
