Gagandeep’s Meme

The meme I chose to describe my time at Baruch so far was one that describes the types of professors I have. In high school, most notes that I had to copy or write down were written on the board and the teacher would orate them, which gave me time to write. In college it is different. Some teachers write down notes but most notes don’t even make sense. The notes are more like their own personal notes, meaning they are choppy and not developed. You copy them down and understand them at the moment and you think you will know what the professor meant by his or her notes but when you go home to review the notes they look like they were written in a different language. Meanwhile I have other teachers that know their subject so well that the whole class consists of them speaking. At this point, all hell breaks loose as students pen page after page of notes, trying to catch everything important the teacher says but forgetting half the stuff. This has happened to me a countless number of times. I go to write down something important the teacher said and while I’m writing the important thing, the teacher starts saying something else and I lose my train of thought and forget what I was supposed to write.

At the same time the teacher tells you to know certain things on the test but they say it so fast that you don’t even catch what they said and then you struggle during study time. It probably gets annoying for the person next to you because you keep asking them what the teacher said over and over again. I feel that all professors should put their notes online so that studying and reviewing is a lot easier and clearer. Plus if a student misses a day of class, he or she wouldn’t have to ask other people for the notes because they would be readily available online. So going back to the meme, I know a professor has a lot to go through in one class period since classes don’t meet everyday but they could honestly speak a bit slower.

Some of my friends told me that their teachers tell them “don’t worry it is in the textbook” if they tell the professor they didn’t catch something. The funny part is that the information is not in the textbook. This makes things so much more complicated for no reason. I hope I get better at taking faster notes because I know the professors won’t be slowing down anytime soon. Or I hope I start to realize which notes to copy and which notes I can get by without knowing because I have a lot of “useless” stuff that doesn’t even pertain to the topic we are learning or taking a test on. I’m pretty sure other people would agree with me on this topic and hopefully we all get better at this because we have three more years of this to go through.

Gagandeep’s Monologue

The smell of the alcohol filled hand sanitizers to the constant beeping of heart monitors is what you are reminded of every time you visit the hospital. Working in the ER has exposed me to a lot of different people and injuries. This day at the hospital was a little different. There were way more people waiting in line to get registered to visit the ER. There were only two volunteers at the front desk, my friend and I. A man came in and didn’t look too good so I offered to get him a wheelchair. He said “I don’t need one, I just need to see a doctor” but there were people in front of him getting registered so he had to wait in line. A minute after there was a loud thump and I turned around to see that he had fallen unconscious onto the floor. “Someone get a doctor!” I heard someone yell. The doctors rushed out with a stretcher and took him to the ER. With all the stuff I have seen at the hospital, this was the most intense because no one was sure exactly what happened.

Who’s Gagandeep?

I decided to make a slideshow to showcase the people, events, and things in my life that have had a huge impact on me and make me who I am.

To start off my slideshow I decided to give you guys a little bit of background information on the schools I have attended. My first slide is a collage of the 3 schools I went to. I went to two public schools between kindergarten and eight grade. When it was time for high school, my parents really wanted to put me in a private school. This was a big change for me and shows how I was able to adjust to all these changes. I had to make myself comfortable wherever I went. My second slide is also a collage. I am a commuter to Baruch and ever since high school the train has been my source of travel. I also have to walk quite a bit to get to the train station. I really wanted a slide that described what my culture and heritage consisted of so I decided to put a couple of pictures of that.  From color to drama my culture has it all. I was born into a Sikh family and I honestly am very proud of my religion. My parents were both born in the city in India so they have always been very open-minded and thoughtful. They honestly are the reason why I am here today. My mom is my support and my confidant. She can sense when something is wrong and she will always help me in my time of need. My dad is my inspiration and my source of drive. Seeing him work so hard to get to where he is now has made me proud. I get my honesty and loyalty from them. My brother is four years older. We are extremely close and we can share things with each other that we might not be able to tell our parents. We both love watching comedy and horror movies and TV shows together. My friends and family are the biggest support for me. My best friends, Almeet, Pardeep, and Katherine are like the sisters I never had. They always teach me to love myself. My friends are the biggest motivators and I am the luckiest person to have them in my life. They accept me for who I am. I look up to my older group of friends because they are smart and dedicated. They never make me feel like the youngest in the group and have taught me to be more independent. My family is so huge that I can’t even list all of my cousins, aunts and uncles. I can be outside with my family and meet a relative of the family I didn’t even know existed. My closest relatives are my mom’s sister’s family. They have been a constant part of my life and always tell me to strive for the best and be good at what I do.

I love roller coasters, speed and heights. I love the adrenaline I get. I want to go sky diving, bungee jumping and zip lining. I think this relates to the times when I can be carefree and live life. I also love traveling. My favorite part is actually the plane ride. I know so many people that hate airplane rides and they look at me like I’m crazy. I want to travel to Europe if I ever get the chance. I have been to India a countless number of times for vacation and I honestly love it. It is so different from here. I have lots of family there so it’s nice to see them.  I have relatives all over the world so it’s neat to go somewhere new and meet them.

Well that’s about it for now, I’m looking forward to learning more about you guys!

About Gagandeep

Hey LC09! My name is Gagandeep Kaur. I was born and raised in Elmhurst, Queens. The high school I attended was Archbishop Molloy High School. Applying for colleges was really stressful. Baruch was not my first choice, however, it was the best CUNY for business so I decided to apply for it. When I got in I decided to go to Baruch because I felt I would receive a great education. I also believed that going to a college in the city would open more doors for job related opportunities. I am sure I want to major in either Finance or Accounting. I would have loved to double major in Finance and Accounting but when I asked someone at Baruch, I was told that it would not be possible. Some of my hobbies are reading books, shopping, going to movies or just hanging out with friends. An expectation I have for myself at Baruch is to get good grades and make the most of my college life.
