LinkedIn

Recently I have attended a Starr Career Development center workshop for LinkedIn. The workshop focused on LinkedIn and how it was a valuable tool for people to network with others and connect with businesses. The workshop explains how LinkedIn works and how useful it can be. Although it was only one hour long it was full of information. LinkedIn is a way to connect to professionals, because resumes and such can be lost easily. LinkedIn also recommends jobs and resumes which can help benefit you. They taught me hope to make a good profile as it is similar to Facebook in several ways, such as the way you make connections is similar to the way you make friends on Facebook. The layout for both is also very similar. There were people of all ages their as I was surprised to see that the room was packed to the brim. I will definitely use LinkedIn in the future because it is a very important tool and is very helpful for my future.

Moma

Recently me and my friends a have decided to embark on a journey to the Museum of Modern Art or MoMa. It is an art museum located at midtown Manhattan. Their collection includes modern and contemporary art. When I think of art I think of Greek sculptures or the Renaissance, modern art is not what I think of.

Although I can appreciate the time and effort the artists took in creating the work I do not understand most of it. And I was certainly confused at times when other people seemed to admire the beauty of the art. However some of the exhibits and pieces were really astounding to me and how could someone think of that . Personally I struggle with creating art such as drawing which I am not great at. So I can really appreciate a finely crafted sculpture because that is tremendous more difficult than drawing in my opinion. The museum was also very aesthetically pleasing and there were man other visitors that day.

I would say I preferred the contemporary pieces as the modern pieces felt confusing and over hyped. And our culture has definitely changed so I guess what is considered art changes as well.

Club Fair

Recently I went on a club fair at Baruch. Many of Baruch’s finest clubs came to represent themselves and showcase their respective clubs. I went with my friends who suggested the club fair in order to really get a feel of the Baruch culture. Although every club in Baruch did not make an appearance the one’s who did were able to showcase all the benefits of the clubs. I signed up to as many clubs as possible since I wasn’t too sure about which ones to join.

Many of the clubs that caught my attention were the clubs that helped you develop in the future. There were many clubs such as ALFA, Wall Street Club, and the Traders Club that gave students a real world experience while in college. There were also fun clubs such as the Adrenaline Club that peaked my interest. There was also clubs to develop skills such as the Hackers that taught people how to code. They went on hiking trips and paintball tournaments which sounded awesome! There were also many cultural clubs. The cultural clubs such as BSA, UCLA, BSU, Carribbean society, and many more. Everyone can find something they identify with.

I first signed up to BSA or the Bengali Students Association since I am Bengali. They told me a bit about the club and I decided to sign up. My friend Carl wanted to sign up for the Carribbean society but didn’t wanna do it alone so I signed up with him. The atmosphere was incredible, seeing all those people and clubs intermingle was great. I gave all the clubs I signed up for my email and have attended some general interest meetings. I have yet to know what clubs I definitely want to join.

That club fair was a great time that really helped me in my first year This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. Either add alt text or mark the image as decorative.not knowing what all the clubs are about.

Latin Heritage Month

Recently this past Thursday I attended one of the many Latinx heritage month events hosted at Baruch. The event was Family Feud: Latin edition. The questions varied from “popular Latin pop star” to ” What did your mom use to hit you with”. I had no idea what to expect first walking in, but i was hit by a storm once it got started. The immediate liveliness was delightful. The energy that the contestants had translated itself to the audience. The room was filled to the brim with that same energy. Once a question was answered a sea of tension filled the air, then the answer would be revealed followed by a lot of disappointing groans or a rush of joy and happiness.

The people that took part were clubs such as USG and LASO there was also audience participation. As the night went on there was more enthusiasm that came about and I could feel myself getting sucked in. I met a senior named Zain and he was very energetic and is majoring in digital media. I did not know what to expect but I am by the end I was very excited although I left early I would like to have know how it ended. Even though it a a Latin heritage event there was a diverse group of people, much like Baruch is. Baruch being very diverse is a great thing to see. This experience was great and I hope to have many more.
