I have been to a few Museums in which don’t catch my eye as much as this Museum did when I visited. During my break between classes, my friend and I came to explore the art and enjoy the view from the terraces on the different floors. The view of the city and the water was beautiful just as much as the art appearing so simple, but grasping a powerful message. I did not have a chance to look through all the floors, however, in the short time, I was present among the few floors I visited there was one in particular that really grasped my attention and pulled me in to visit the floor again before leaving. An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940-2017 depicts how the artists throughout history have challenged the political and social issues during their time. Every protest, no matter how big or small creates a powerful impact, further pushing people to attempt to change the negative issues damaging society. It is really inspiring to know that there are people always willing to rise up and fight against injustice without the use of violence, but do so in a creative way. Images can tell many stories when depicted certain ways. Artists chose what they want you to see and make sure the image stays with you, thinking and understanding the issue in a new light. Sometimes history can, unfortunately, repeat itself in a different form. every issue throughout society has always presented itself with a protest to show that the people have a voice and have that right to make theirs clear for all to hear. The artwork includes words, images and also items each representing a different protest to something, which all made me think of how history has formed what our society is today and how well society has taken in the conflicts and protests of the past.
