Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DMC

NABA

On November 16, 2017, The National Association of Black Accountants held an event called “Building a Mentee, Mentor Relationship”. In this event I was taught many subtle things on what to do when you are having a business relationship with your mentor. They talked about things like making your mentor sit before you sit when having lunch/dinner. A big subtle thing I learned that seemed strange was that do not put salt and pepper on your food before you try the food out first. If a person was to do this, it is shown as a negative trait when you and your mentor has a big age difference. One other thing that I learned in this event is to always try and order the same thing your mentor is ordering. This actually makes a lot of sense because if you order the same thing as they eat you will finish approximately the same time they are done eating, and this is really a big thing because if you were to order something different you would be taking up the other persons time.
