Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DTD

#1 – Student Life

Last Thursday I went to a club meeting for Ascend, which is a business organization for Pan-Asians. I had no intention of joining but one of the leaders, Shile, told us that there was free lunch and convinced my friend and I to go. I haven’t joined any clubs at this point so I figured why not. When I walked into Ascend, I was immediately greeted with friendly club members. Unfortunately they seemed to be all out of food by the time I got there. Since we went in a bit late, the meeting had already ended and everyone was just standing around and chatting. The president, Richard Tang, talked to me and my friend and he gave us a rundown of what the club is and what they do. He gave me the organization’s business card and we gathered to take a group picture before everyone was dismissed. By the time I left, I still wasn’t entirely sure of what the club was. I just knew it was some sort of business club and they provide networking opportunities and help develop skillsĀ for Asians in the marketing, finance, and business communities.

The people were very welcoming and I would probably go back again, but this time at the beginning of club meetings so I wouldn’t miss everything like I did the first time. I think this will be a great opportunity for me to talk to older students and see what their experience is like in the marketing field since it is something that I might be interested in. Everyone was chill and it seemed like a good place to meet new people and make friends. In general, I enjoyed my time at Ascend, and I hope to get more involved and learn more about what the club has to offer.
