ISAAC ARAZI STARR Cover LETTER

In this amazing event that changed my perception of cover letters. I honestly thought this even will be boring and dull. I was completely wrong, it was the exact opposite. The teacher was enthusiastic and amazing. She taught us the importance of a cover letter and how to perfectly structure them. She told us the secrets of writing the perfect cover letter. I feel like now if I ever need any help, STARR has my back. The teacher gave us handouts that illustrates examples of what a good, bad example is of a cover up. The teacher was very open to questions and put us all into groups to decide which cover was best. Also, the teacher only allowed a person to speak once, so other people will have a chance to talk. Overall, it was a great experience, it was right after a good lunch, and now I am prepared and ready to write my own amazing cover up letter. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. Careers In Start-Up Workshop

I went to a career workshop about start-ups recently. This workshop was done through a power point presentation presented by two twin brothers who work together in the start-up industry. The two had relatively large amounts of experience involving start-ups and they shared their experiences so far. They told us the various dos and donts of start-ups which would be very useful for me if I ever decided to go join a start-up business or even start my own. They used real life anecdotes from their own lives to highlight what to do and not to do, their successes and failures. They also had some very insightful tips on actually landing a career in start-up. They talked about how we should format and write or resumes in such a way that appeals to the businesses hiring. This was also followed by tips in finding these jobs in the first place, they explained networking and various mediums to do so. They helped narrow down our hypothetical options by teaching us criteria in which we should judge start-up businesses, various questions we should ask ourselves about the company to see whether or not it would be even beneficial to work for them before asking for a job. They also had various interviewing tips, such as how we should approach the interview, including certain questions that we should be asked ourselves rather than only answering questions thrown at us. In terms of using this new information and skills learned at this workshop at Baruch, I may be more open to taking certain internship jobs in start-ups and select those internships more carefully. The interview tips from this workshop will also aid me in actually obtaining some of these internships as I now know better on how I should approach and interview and interviewer. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. Attend a Starr Career Development Center workshop

Tonight I attended a Starr Career Development Center Workshop in the dorms. It was very convenient for me because I just had to take the elevator down and sit on the couch. There were about 6 or 7 people there, along with Zoe, the peer mentor from Starr career development center. After the presentation, RA Paul, who hosted the event, got everyone subway sandwiches and cookies. They tasted very good

The event was about resume building.  I don’t have a resume so it was very informative for me. i learned a lot of things about resumes that I didn’t know before.  I learned that you can only put information about high school on your resume until you are a sophomore in college.  After that, you are advised to remove that information because it is no longer relevant. The Starr career development center is a very very very helpful free resource for student at Baruch. I don’t have a resume right now, but when I do make one, I will definitely stop by there to have it edited by them.

The STARR-t of a Great Resume

To start off, let me just say that the Starr Career Development Center is a great tool students should utilize while their in Baruch. From giving you mock interviews to helping you find an internship, Starr will definitely help you move along in life. But, to get a good job or internship, you’re going to need a resume that’ll really ‘wow’ your employer. That’s why I went to Starr. Starr recently had a resume workshop were you could come in with your resume and have one of the workers there check it out for you. Though it may seem like a such a simple thing that you can do yourself, I highly recommend you go there and have someone check out your resume. I personally thought my resume was pretty good. I thought any employer that saw would think “Wow, we could really use a guy like this on our team!” Boy, was I wrong. Within the first 30 seconds, the person checking my resume marks up more than half of my page. She explained to me what was wrong with my resume and what I could do to fix it. She was even kind enough to give me a packet call “Resume & Cover Letter Writing Guide,” which explains to you what you should put on a resume, what you shouldn’t, and even gives you model resumes you can follow.

After that, I went home, rewrote my resume, and came back for another check. I had a different reviewer this time, but if anything, I found him more helpful. He went into more detail explaining that it was a good resume, but I could make it even better, despite my lack of experience. I paid close attention to him and the advice he gave me. Unfortunately, these workshops only last 15 minutes, which went by a lot faster than it felt. Still though, it’s enough time for your resume to be thoroughly evaluated.  I thanked him for all his help and went on my way, confident of my resume. I’m going to continue to use Starr, whether it’s to have my resume evaluated, or to find an opportunity to work. Starr Career Development Center is a great help, and I recommend that everyone go there at least once.
