At the majors and minors fair, I was exposed to lots of useful and important information. I learned what a CPA is; a financial professional who helps people, businesses, and other organizations plan and reach financial goals. I learned that in order to become a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), there are heavy education requirements. For instance, it is required to have at least 150 semester hours at a college or university. This also includes a bachelor’s degree, 33 semester hours of accounting and taxation, and 36 hours of general business work (which indoors business, statistics, business law, computer science, economics, finance, management, and marketing.
Furthermore, I learned about BA in Actuarial Science. I learned that actuarial science involves math and statistics of every instance (health insurance, life insurance, etc). I also learned that insurance companies are the employers of actuaries. I learned that the skills for being an actuary are critical thinking, computer literacy, can work alone and in groups, problem solving, organized, honesty, and many more.

Moreover, I learned about being a mathematics major at Baruch and all the required classes you have to take to be a math major. For instance, you have to take lots of different math classes. I spoke to one of the advisors in the mathematics department and they told me that since I am taking MTH 2003 this semester, in order to become a math major, I should take MTH 2205 next, then MTH 3006, 3030, then 4010. Tim, one of the advisors, told me that I should get all of my science, English, and language out of the way too.

Overall, I learned a lot from speaking with the advisor. After the conversation with him, I was able to limit the different classes that I was thinking of taking next semester in the spring. I made sure to take the classes I had to take. For example, Communications, Music, Anthropology, and English. I am glad I went to the fair because not only did it fulfill the academic requirement for the blog post, I also was opened to so much important information regarding all majors which helped me figure out which classes I wanted to take next semester and in the fall.
