SACC Tutoring Center

I decided to give my Calc class one last try. Before the second midterm, I scheduled an appointment at the SACC tutoring center. My tutor had a lot of knowledge of calculus and math in general, and he tried to explain the most difficult topic, optimization, to me in a way that was clear. In class, I did not understand the way my professor taught optimization, but thanks to my tutor, I  was able to get a more clear explanation of the key steps such as how to properly find constraints. We also went over limits, which is something I nearly forgot after the first midterm. Sometimes for questions that my tutor did not find difficult, I felt a bit of pressure because he tried to show me that the problem was not difficult at all, despite my lack of understanding. I got a score higher than I expected on my midterm, and I believe this was in part due to my SACC tutor. I will be visiting the center again for upcoming midterms and finals.

Trip to Museum

This weekend, using my Baruch ID, I was able to visit the Museum of Natural History with my sister in Manhattan. Because of my CUNY ID, I was able to get free entry into most sections of the museum. I went to several exhibits, such as Hall of Meteorites, Hall of Mexico and Central America, Hall of African peoples, and Hall of Asian peoples. When I visited the Hall of Asian peoples, I was really surprised and content to see historical artifacts of Uzbek people, including our traditional clothing and tools for daily use. I was able to learn about the history of many cultures and geographical regions that I had not known before. I also watched a 3D documentary called “Earthflight,” which was about the flight of birds and their journey across the globe during changing seasons. It was really interesting to learn about the history of people and places during my trip to the museum.

Latinx Heritage Month Opening Ceremony

Last week I went to the opening ceremony of Latinx Heritage Month. The event was held on the second floor of the Newman Vertical Campus. At the event, several clubs such as the Latin American Student Organization were promoting and explaining the event and what is done in their clubs. The ceremony contained music and a dance floor where students also participated in games. There was also food being served based off of the many diverse sectors of Latin America. Since the ceremony lasts for a whole month, I am hoping to attend the Nuestra Belleza pageant to learn more about Latin traditions, explore fashion derived from Latin America, and enjoy all that the event has to offer for students to either embrace or be more informed about Latin American culture.
