Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC14

Majors and Minors Fair

Last week Allan told me that he was going to a Majors and Minors fair, so I thought I would tag along and it would probably be helpful for choosing a career choice.  I intended on majoring in accounting but after taking a sheet of paper with all the information that I need to be an accountant and what an accountant does, I became unsure about majoring in accounting.  I went around asking other people what their majors do and became even more undecided on what to major in.  We also saw Mauro at the fair, who intends to major in math and told me about his path to majoring in math.  Overall the fair was helpful and taught me a lot more about what accountants do and what it takes to become one.

Internship Seminar

During club hours last Thursday, I attended a Career Workshop for Internship Seminar. It was very packed and he said it was the most attendance he has ever seen. Luckily for me, I went early and got a seat.  Throughout his talk he taught us how to get and internship, whats needed in a resume, and how to make one even without any work experience. It was very informational, before I went to the workshop I thought to get an internship was difficult and competitive.  But he said there are thousands of opportunities, paid and unpaid. He taught us how to log onto STARR and find internships that are best fit for us.  He told us how to put together a resume and what you should put.  Overall I am glad that I attended this workshop, because it shed new light to me. There are many opportunities I just have to take action and take advantage of these opportunities.

UCLA

This pass Thursday, during club hours, I went to United Chinese Language Association’s, UCLA, second general interest meeting. At first they had the members of UCLA go around and introduce themselves to everyone who came to the meeting, where I met a couple of alumni’s from my high school. After greeting everyone, they began to explain what the club was, and what they do.  They introduced all the club members and what their role is in the club and they also told us what we had to do in order to join the club. After all the introductions they split the the room into 2 teams and we played 2 games, “Google Feud” and “Zoom In”. And after the games they gave out free food, which was the end of the meeting.

(I circled myself in red in the group photo because I did not get the chance to take a ‘selfie’.)
