Blog #3: Career–Resume Writing

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a seminar given by the Starr Career Development Center. It was an internship seminar that was meant to help people find internship opportunities. I was interested in this seminar because I really want to find an internship for this summer or next year in order to broaden my experience. They told us that Baruch has a process called on campus recruitment, which is something I would not have known had I not attended this seminar. Many companies come to Baruch and hold interviews for students interested in interning for their companies. I think it’s a really great opportunity; it is very convenient and and useful for students who may not have the time to go to an interview. I also learned that there are different kinds of internships, but paid internships are what I am most interested in, since it would be mutually beneficial!

Instead of going to a traditional museum, Joey and I decided to go to a farm museum. On Friday, we went to the Queens County Farm Museum. There were many activities offered, one of them being The Amazing Maize Maze, which is essentially a three acre corn maze. The facilitators began with a “Stalk Talk”, which is where they basically told us the rules of the maze as well as how to find clues to get to the exit; then, we were off to find our own way out. Aside from the corn maze, there was also a petting and feeding area where you could interact and feed the farm animals. Some of the animals the farm museum raises are sheep, rabbits, pigs, roosters, cattle, goats, alpaca, honeybees, etc. The farm museum also offered a tour that taught about their green houses, growing fields, gardens, and composting areas among others.

FRO Blog Post #1– Student Life

Last week, I attended the general interest meeting for Alpha Kappa Psi, which is a professional co-ed business fraternity. I was interested in this fraternity because my cousin, who graduated from college last year, was a part of this fraternity in another chapter. During this meeting, members of the fraternity explained most of the general aspects of the club such as their resources, networking, alumni, etc. The motto of their fraternity is to stand out, but don’t stand alone; they have a wide range of social activities such as their game nights, which take place on Wednesdays. They can help you with your resumes and networking–with about 150 members in Baruch and about 240,000 members worldwide, there are many opportunities available to find internships, accumulate new skills, and gain new connections. The large alumni network of the fraternity is a great way to encounter new experiences in order to help people be better prepared for the competitive business world.
