I got the opportunity to grow up on a tiny island in the Caribbean called Grenada. This tiny island is the one place i call home and it is and forever will be a part of my life. I love the beach and I crave warmth and sunlight at times when i need an escape to feel at peace. My family and friends are also a great part of my life, they have shaped me to become the person I am today. They continue to support and guide me, even though i am in a completely different country from them.

Another great aspect of my life is Music. I have been playing the Piano since i was four and i currently hold a grade five certificate in the ABRSM music exams. Music at most times is my escape. It’s what i use to keep myself grounded and release all of my pent up stresses. In my slideshow i put up a picture of twins.(yes i know they look like the jack in a deck of cards) lol. They represent my zodiac sign, the Gemini. Gemini’s are represented by the twin because the main aspect of the gemini is the split personality. I, like my sign, have multiple personalities that make me who I am. I can be silly, fun and outgoing when need be, but when it comes down to business, i know how to get serious. I can also be very genuinely kind and caring, but if you take advantage of my kindness in a negative way i can drop you like a hot potato, and pretend like you never existed. Don’t get me wrong, i’m a very chill, laid back person. Just be genuine with me and i’ll treat you likewise.

I am a dreamer. I love to think big and outside of the box. I like to believe that everyone has a purpose on this earth and that everyday we must strive for something. We must wake up with the desire to do something positive, whether it be at school, work or in our personal lives. Don’t live each day just to get by or survive. Have a passion, something to look forward to in this life, no matter how small it is. Never loose sight of what you want from life. Life always gives us opportunities, don’t wait for them. Get up and reach for them, run for them, fight for them. This slide show is just a short insight into my life. It’s barely a summary, but it’s something. Something i wanted to share with you all.

Parts of Martin Branzell

February 23, 2015Written by | Comments Off on Parts of Martin Branzell

About Martin

I come from a very small city in Sweden (Not Switzerland) called Söderköping but have spent most of my grown up time in Norrköping. Just like every other city in Sweden, they both end with –Köping.

The red house you can see, is the house I grew up in and that my mother and her husband live in today. You can see my kid brother in some of the images, he is probably the one thing I miss about Sweden right now.

I have been working internationally for several years. At Puma Headquarters in Germany as an intern for the Product line management department. But also as a Sales/Account manager with clients around Europe, Asia and Australia. I like to travel both work-related and non-work-related. However, travelling in work in not as nice as you might think.

I have some distant families living in New York so after being here several times, it was an easy choice to study at Baruch in New York City.

I also enjoy music a lot, both listen and play some guitar and sing. But that’s strictly for the bathroom or if I’m in the mood (drunk). I like to be up to date with the world news, and I always try to find out the truth about world conflicts and what the hidden agendas might be for nations to act like they do. Meaning that one channel of media and news is not really enough.

I know that I don’t want to be a nuclear scientist when I get older, and that is about it. I hate closing doors, figuratively and not literately. This is not always a good thing.

This is a little bit about me…Brandon Valentin

February 23, 2015Written by | Comments Off on This is a little bit about me…Brandon Valentin

A little bit…from me to you

Hi my full name is Chon-il Brandon Valentin, but you guys can call me Brandon. I am a bred New Yorker and unfortunately am a second hand smoker. I’ve lived here all my life, but my father is from Puerto Rico and my mother is from Japan, making me half Japanese and half Puerto Rican. Unfortunately, I do not know either language and can only understand and speak American English. Though many of these facts may hold great interest to you, I’m going to try my best to describe myself in reasonable, yet descriptive manner. All of this began the day I chose NOT to go to College.

I’ve had an interesting and good life so far that has had its fill of ups and downs, tears of joy and tears of sorrow, but through and through they have made me a better human being as a whole. After finishing high school I felt I was not ready or mature enough to handle all of the responsibilities that would be required of me in college. Wasn’t rich, so I would be working and studying, and of course having FUN, but I just felt like college wasn’t the right thing for me yet. College such huge opportunities for young people today to go in without some kind of understanding or preparation seems a bit wasteful , so I instead of going to school or just working, I volunteered on a gap year program known as Generation Peace Academy. It took me all across the USA and the globe and led me to people that have filled the many holes in my own heart.

So the very first image is me and one of my best friend’s Austin Hummel. He was one of the funniest and ridiculous people I know and has some of the weirdest habits in the world, but he is someone that has always made me laugh and put a smile on my face when it was difficult. The picture is an attempt of a ballroom move; Austin and I were trying to show off to a friend. Of course, she found it quite stupid.

The second image shows one of nearest and dearest friends of mine, Chung You. A wise and gentle person, who also has made me laugh many a time, but also realize how important it is to be yourself and not hold back who you are. I feel like no one really knows who they are, but expressing yourself is something so important and as Marianne Williamson said, “it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us…”

The third image is my first attempt at a proposal. I was walking onto a stage, intending on placing this small bracelet on this Filipino student’s hand, but instead tripped and fell onto my knees. I still have that bracelet.

The Fourth image is someone whom I consider like a sister. I’ve always loved this girl and she has changed a lot of things in my life due to the many challenges she has faced in her own.

The fifth image was taken on one of my last nights in the Philippines. Austin and I were committed to staying awake all night and spending time with so many of the Filipino kids and we did, but ended up knocking out around 4 or 5 in the morning.

The sixth image is of a boy named Shinji. I was serving overseas in the Dominican Republic for service work and this boy I had met on the second was so afraid of me in the beginning, but by the end, I couldn’t get away from him. He made practice taken more of a child’s perspective towards things.

The seventh image is of these two twins in the Dominican Republic who made me question and learn so much about what it means to be grateful. I am grateful for them both.

The 8 and yes, 9th image are pictures of my family. They have been through a lot of shit with me and every moment that we have spent together is a moment to cherish.

FRO

My name is Junlin Zhang. I am from China. I have been in New York only for one month. For me, the reason I choose school in New York City is that New York is really like Shanghai, My favorite city. Shanghai is a beautiful city and famous for her international economy and amazing history. About three hundred years ago, there is nothing in Shanghai and Shanghai is only a little harbor. Right now Shanghai is the largest city in China.

When I was ten years old, I started to learn to play the piano. Unfortunately,I am not someone who is really interesting in music. However, under my mum’s stress, I can play few songs. Although music is not my taste, I do like playing the piano which make you feel relaxed and a sense of achievement.

I am really interested in painting. However, my mum thought once I start learning painting I will lose interest in it. I am total disagree with my mum’s words for that I believe I have passion on painting. Now, I am looking for a chance to study painting. Maybe in summer. By the way, my favorite artist is Van Gogh.

My favorite movie is the lion king. It is the first time to me to appreciate the beauty of nature and grassland and inspire me to explore the life of animals. Therefore, When I was a little child i was dreaming to have a little lion to be his sister and take care of him.

My favorite movie star is Leslie Zhang. He is a very handsome and charming artist! There are two kind people in the world. One kind people is who like Leslie and another kind people don’t know him. I also like Avril Lavigne and Taylor swift.

My favorite cartoon is detective canon which is from Japan. That why I want to go to Japan, but also for Sakura and Fuji mountain.

Before I came to New York City, all the stories about New York I know is from the film and TV play like gossip girl. The real New York is a little bit different from what I thought. First, the winter is more cold than what I thought. Second, the city is not such clean, especially subway. Third, people in this city are more hard working than what I thought before.

During the time in college, I want to spend more time to do what I like to do and to learn what I want to learn.

Sungoo Jung Post One

February 23, 2015Written by | Comments Off on Sungoo Jung Post One

https://prezi.com/llafcordo2n-/blog-post-sungoo-jung-freshman-seminar/#

My name is Sungoo Jung. I was born in South Korea, Seoul on June 4th, 1995. I lived in Cheongju, one of the cities in South Korea. In the year 2004, I immigrated to New York with my family. I remember when I went to the elementary school, it was difficult for me to communicate with my friends because I did not know how to speak and understand English.

I like listening to music. It is one of the sources that I need to live my life. I also love playing instruments and played many different kinds of instruments. Three main instruments I play are acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and, particularly, drums. I play drums during the church worship service in praise team.

I love eating Korean food because I am a… Korean! Bi-bim-bap is my favorite Korean dish. It means mixed rice, where many different types of vegetables and sauces are mixed with white rice with a fried egg. Kimchi is my favorite side dish while eating the bi-bim-bap. I also love to eat Korean BBQ. Now I am hungry.

My favorite video game is League of Legends, where you battle 5 vs. 5 with different kinds of champions. Each champion has different positions, so every champion needs to carry out their roll in order to win the fight. It is really fun to play with my friends.

I love my family. Without them, I will feel really alone and unaided. Friends are also important to me because they listen to my concerns and support me. Family and friends are required to be in my life. I am so thankful for having them.
