The Alexander String Quartet

I recently attended the Live Musical Performance and Workshop: Alexander String Quartet with my English class on April 11, 2016. We heard two pieces consisting of a quartet; 2 violins, 1 viola, and 1 cello. The performance was absolutely beautiful and sparked a feeling of creativeness within me. It brightened my mood and was just utterly compelling. They were such a fine group in every possible way, They were so in sync, musically, technically, or in any way anyone wants to view it. The quartet was so in control of the musics emotional contours and deep in their element. Being that I am a dancer and went to a performing arts high school, I basically studied classical ballet nearly 4 hours a day for almost 4 years and found this performance so fascinating. It reminded me of my days in high school where I would dance to such similar music. They literally had me dancing in my seat. Following the performance we spoke about classical and contemporary music, and how it ages. I would absolutely recommend this to my peers and if anyone is actually interested they have a couple of upcoming performances Wednesday April 13th and the 15th.

P.S. We were not by any means allowed to use our phones during the performance so I could not provide any media with my post.

My Monologue

Giovanna Amvrosiatos

She

Every morning

She wakes up

She looks in the mirror

and says everything will work out

the best is yet to come

you are important

you are strong

you can do this

she counts her blessings

walks out the door

off to class

in the pouring rain

all alone just like she enjoys most

she sits in class

to make herself proud

not for her family

not for anyone

just for herself

because no one else has been there

and no one will be there

so she proves to herself

she is worth it

she is not afraid of the world

she is not afraid of anyone

she goes home

does her chores

handles her responsibilities

and off to work

where she dances her stress away

where her heart beats in an eight-count

and her soul is filled with music

a weight lifted off her shoulder

just to return home

study

alone until day breaks

she knows her worth and knows she will succeed

so she continues

through this agonizing daily routine

to escape the feeling

of ever having to be dependent

this is her

identity

Workshop With SACC Tutoring Center

My very first workshop during my first semester at Baruch College was a Math Workshop. I am currently taking Pre-Calculus and Elements of Calculus, and felt as if i wasn’t completely comfortable with the material, so I made an appointment for a workshop. I knew the material but I just wasn’t ready to apply it for my upcoming quiz and found this as a perfect opportunity to get a taste of what SACC is all about. I really love the fact that other than one on one tutoring, SACC offers these workshops which include larger groups of students rather than just 2-3 students. This helped for review of a large variety of topics and didn’t put me on the spot for not having direct questions to ask. It was a more broad review of what we had done from the beginning of the course, and sure enough I got a 100 on my quiz the following Monday. My tutor was extremely understanding, helpful, and assisted me in any question I had regarding the topics. We went over exactly what I was unsure about and I actually also saw some new faces and made some friends. I definitely benefited in more than one way. Since this workshop, I have actually gone back and had tutoring with same tutor as I found that I understand him well and he is of great help when it comes to my tests/quizzes. I would definitely recommend the workshops and am actually signing up for one again this week to help prepare for my math midterm! 🙂SACC.fw

Study Abroad Fair

I attended an education, or study abroad fair because of my interest in traveling the world. I love to go to new places and explore historic sites.  Ironically I found this flyer at the fair indicating there was going to be a program in Greece, and they would be departing on July 3rd. My mom lives in Greece and I go every year to visit her around that time so it would be extremely convenient for me because I would be able to receive some credits and see my mom all at once! I’m really grateful and happy that I attended this fair because if I hadn’t I would have never even known about this program. Although I’ve been to Greece many times, I have never in particular been to Thessaloniki and it would be such a great opportunity to be able to study in an American College in Greece. I have always wondered how it would be to attend school in my native country. Attending this fair has brought forth a great opportunity for me in which I am very excited about.IMG_5740unnamed
