Blog 3, Major and Minor Fair

On April 12, I went to the workshop that explain different majors and minors that we, students in Baruch College, can have. I learned that I can have many different minors that I never thought of such as real estate, marketing, entrepreneurship, etc… I also learn a lot more about majors such as l learned that we can have double majors in school, which I never know before. I always thought we can only have one major in Baruch College. Now I know more about the majors, I am sure I will have a good decision on choosing my majors and minors.
Besides learning everything about majors and minors, I love the food they give us. I thought for this event, the school will not give us any thing to drink and eat, but actually the school give us cookies and waters. On the other hand, the professor is very nice as well. The day is very fun and wonderful.

PS: I will email you the picture!

Monologue- Who am I!

“Who am I?” I asked myself,
“What can I do if I don’t have my family there to back me up?” I thought to myself,
I was over confident on myself during before I ended high school,
Whatever I do, I did great, I can do it better than anyone else,
I was full with proud,
Until one day,
A day when I failed,
This is what happened,
I got a request from friends,
That was contact news media and make sure there will be five different American reporter come to the event,
I took a full hand of list that is full with media contact informations,
I thought, “this is easy, I just have to write an email and sent it to them.”
So, I started,
After sending 1000 different people from over 50 different media companies,
I have received none reply back that told me they will come,
I started to worry,
I was thinking,”what is going on? Is there anything wrong with my email that they don’t even look at it?”
I was worrying hard!
Well, as you can guess,
I didn’t make my promise on invite at least 5 different American media companies,
I found myself,”I am still too young, too naive,”
“I must improve myself even more,”
“I have a long way to go, I have a long path to learn, I am still too weak,”
“I must be independent!”
I, then, set myself a goal, a goal that will keep me up,
I realize I have to learn and study more,
So, I stop playing around,
I started to study hard and trying to become who I wanted to be.

Blogs 2 Writing Center

2.pic

One of my favorited part in the school is writing center because I have learned a lot and improved a lot in writing center. I went to writing center a lot of times for my homework and papers. The writing center really made me better in English again. I was not this bad in English before because I pass ESL a few years ago. However, I went back to China for a few months and never talk, write, or speak in English for a few months. That made me forget a lot of English. In addition, I was worrying about how to improve my English skills before I start college because I found out that I can’t write as good as I did in high school. Then, I come to Baruch college and stuff members told me I can get help from the writing center, which I went and improved in all my assignments. Therefore, I think writing center is a great place for all students, and I love it!

The Major and Minor fair

On April 12, Me and my best friend went to the workshop, I learned more about Major, and more information about double major. In the beginning , the Bule table is very conspicuous. Each table had its designated subject, with sheet as a major and then as a minor. I learned a lot about the different majors . I want to major in Management with a concentration of finance.  Not really sure what i want to minor in, i am interested to learn more about language or something about art .It sounds very attractive. But I still did not decide which one that I would choose. My dad tends to want me to learn more about management, He wants me to be a good leader and manager, but I will follow my heart. People change, maybe I will be a dentist someday. The workshop is funny, and there were plenty yummy cookie~ Such a wonderful day.

Community Service

On March 19, I went to my elementary school to help them with their “Community Help Day”. Honestly i wasn’t going to go because  i would have preferred to sleep in, but since my mother was going, I figured “hey, why not?”. My mother complained that i didn’t want to spend time with her, so i went with her. So this “Community Help Day” wasn’t like i expected it to be. I thought people would just be in class room help children do homework, it was more than that. When my mother and I got there, they gave us three color with numbers on  it. The colors represented the activities you were going to do with the kids. The numbers was the order you were going to do the activities.  My first activity was homework, which wasn’t all that fun, since it was homework. and homework is never fun. While helping the students with their homework i realized that the instruction was so unclear, it honestly took me a good minute to understand what they were suppose to do. My next activity was builder. So basically the kids were given a word and the had 1 to 2 minutes to build that object with legos. I actually like this part because it was kind of cool to watch them figure out exactly what color the wanted to use and size of the legos they choose.

Major/Minor Fair

A few weeks ago, I went  to the Major and Minor Fair, it was located on the first floor of the VC building. And if i  am being honest i got lost a little because i unfortunately lack good sense of direction. But this post isn’t about me lacking direction but about the major and minor fair.  When i first walked in the room, the first thing that i saw was the color blue and a lot of tables. Each table had its designated subject, with information about that subject as a major and then as a minor. I learned a lot about the different majors and how your minor doesn’t necessarily have to relate to your major.  I want to major in Business Management with a concentration of operation management. Not really sure what i want to minor in, i am interested in journalism or communication.

Monologue

“Give me five more minutes” I said

When time was quite forgiving.

Breakfast was waiting for me

a big bowl of Cheerios and a tall glass of OJ

Because Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

I ride my Fisher Price Yellow and Red car

Mr. Softee around the corner! my most trusted dealer for ice-cream

“Give me five more minutes” I said

When time was not forgiving

A lecture was waiting for me

In a huge lecture hall, a professor with a thick accent is speaking

There’s no time for breakfast, education is not important right?

I pay a price of $2.75 to ride the MTA

The 7 train, and then the 6.

Starbucks around the corner! My most trusted dealer for coffee.

Alexander String Quartet

On April 11th, 2016, I attended one of Alexander String Quartet’s performances at the Engelman Recital Hall. Although I was brought to the Recital Hall during my orientation, I could not remember how to get there. After wandering around countless of times around the Baruch Campus, I finally found my way to the Engelman Recital Hall. The quietness and stillness of the whole Hall really helped set the atmosphere of the performance. This was quiet different from the rambunctiousness of the floors above it, with students scurrying to their lectures, exchanging small and quick conversations to their peers on their way there. As I took a seat that’s not too close or far away from the stage, I took this time to look around, and obverse the interior of this hall. Baruch’s performing arts Recital Hall has been said to be one of the best acoustic hall, architecturally. I noticed how the walls were made up of separate consecutive walls lined up vertically like a domino blocks. The texture of these walls seemed rough, assuming that this was for the purpose of absorbing sound waves as they are projected from the stage. The performance itself as a result, was really good, acoustically. Nonetheless, it was great to experience an music performance at Baruch, and I am willing to attend to another performance at Baruch’s Engelman Recital Hall.

ALT MANGA SYMPOSIUM

On April7th, 2016, I went to a meeting called “Alternative manga symposium” in room 5-165.  In the meeting, we had speakers to talk about the culture of Japan literature, and how it gained it gained a lot more popularity throughout the years. I wanted to attend this meeting because I was interested in minoring in Japanese, and I was not sure if Baruch had a strong Japanese department. One of Baruch’s professors, Shigeru Suzuki, spoke at this meeting. After hearing how passionate he spoke about the Japanese culture, i was eager to register for one of his classes in the future. At the meeting, I was surprised at how many people attended. Initially, I expected a few people, but a lot more people showed up than I expected. I’m glad that I attended this meeting, because now I am sure that I will be minoring in Japanese at Baruch College.
