On Thursday, February 16th, I attended Spotlight Program by Baker Tilly along with my friend Alison. A good advice about going to a first club meeting is, to never be late especially 20 minutes. It gets very awkward otherwise, and finding seats with your friend is also very hard. The speakers at the club include Alison Walsh, and Patrick Yu (CPA). The club is designed for members who want to major in accounting, and Baker Tilly is a very good start for those that want an internship or a job. At the club, the speakers went over how one should prepare for their first interview, how to make a resume, how to dress appropriately and etc. All these things were actually very eye-opening, even though we might think we know the basics. Mr. Yu specifically talks about how you should present yourself and that includes how you dress because first impressions are everything. You don’t have a second chance at a job interview. The resume advice was very helpful as well, and how to build a resume based on what you want to do. When presenting yourself, self-confidence is the key. Having to do background research on the company you want to go in, is always very important. Memorizing key points could just about help you in this.

Overall I believe the presentation was very well done. Students participated from the Baker Tilly firm and talked about their experiences so far. Other students who want to join the firm or want an internship with them over this upcoming summer, also talked about what they want to do. I would recommend this club to anyone who’s interested in majoring in accounting because not only were the staffs exceptional but the new students that joined the firm, also had a lot of good things to say about the firm. They teach will teach you ways to get ready for that job interview you have, and it would actually benefit you to join if you’re interested in the Baker Tilly business. A major plus point is that you get free food, and they have really good sandwiches.

On Thursday February 16th 2017, I attended Baruch college study abroad fair event and I was amazed what I saw there. Study abroad nowadays is a one of the greatest opportunity that you would ever have. It gives you a chance to get acquainted with new cultures. I think everyone would agrees with me that such kind of experience will increase your employability in our globalized world.
I want to emphasize staff member’s work, they readily answered every single question that we asked. Because of the perfectly organized event, the navigation was extremely easy for me even though I am a freshman. Oh, and by the way, they gave me a candy and it turned my day positively
Finally, I strongly recommend you to go to Study Abroad Information Session, held every Wednesday, to use this chance to lay the foundation for your successful future.

On Thursday February 16th 2017, I attended Spoon University General Interest Meeting. Spoon University is a food publication by and for college students. It features recipes, resturant reviews, and personal stories for anyone who loves food. The Co-founder of Spoon University was Sarah Adler and Mackenzie Barth, but the program started 2 years ago in Baruch. There was mozzarella sticks, veggie pring rolls, chicken fingers, and pizza served. The meeting started off with an introduction of why people love food. This program benefits people in variety of ways like getting contacts with the resturant owners and getting discounts.

The  meeting was for any students who are interested to fill in positions as treasurer, secretary, writers, photographers, videographers, and marketers. The position for the treasurer is to manage the financial assets and know when to spend what. The secretarys job is to know if the other people are doing the right thing inorder for the program to go well. The photographer and the videographer works together and goes to different places to take pictures and mak videos of different types of food. Along with then the writer will be there to write about whats going on and write recipes. Every month, the job of the writer is to publish atleast 2 stories. Lastely, the marketers job is to publish videos, recipes,  or any food related stories online, and their goals is to make it go viral.

On February 10th, 2017, I attended the Federal Reserve Bank tour organized by the Financial and Economic Society Club. It was a knowledgeable experience as we learnt about the history of the bank created by the Congress to stabilize the financial system in 1913.

Inside the bank, there is a museum part where we viewed the trading windows and Italian Renaissance inspired architecture. Shredded bills and a weighing machine were also displayed inside. The most fascinating part of the tour was the Gold Vault. The group was also taken to view real gold bars secured in the vault 80 feet below ground level.

The establishment of the building was spoken about more than the current scenario. Overall, it was a really comprehensive trip. I was glad I was given this opportunity and appreciate Financial and Economic Society Club’s efforts to arrange this!
