Workshop #3

For this workshop I decided to attend to the International Student Service Center career night for Undergraduates. In there there were 7 speaking, four of the people work at Baruch, one of them was a student from Baruch that won a stock competition, another one was a graduate from Baruch, and another one was a graduate from Hofstra University that now works for Bank of America. In there they discussed about things that I could do after graduating, they  said that I can only apply for internship once i’m fully accepted to the university; this means that I need to complete all the required classes in order to be admitted to Zicklin school of business.

During the workshop there were two people asking other staff members questions about how they did in order to get a job, how hard it was for them. There were some people talking about their experiences while looking for a job and what they did in order to find a job. I found very interesting how networking is so important in order for you to have a job even before you graduate.

The event was pretty quiet since there were not many students present. I found this very useful since I wanted to know more about internships and what I need to do as International student. Going to this workshop made me wonder about so many things so I started finding out more things about Baruch. I found out that I can go to someone in the office and ask them to help me write a resume and prepare students when going to a interview. In general I enjoyed going to this event because its was one of the first time that I attended to a Baruch career events.

Weekly reflection

Final exams are coming and I definitely don’t know what to feel about it. I’m currently very stressed about it and its not getting better. I must study way much ahead before taking the exam because I have a problem with forgetting things very fast. Currently i’m still undecided about what I want to do for the future, but whatever has to come I know its going to be good.

Weekly reflection

Last week was the last FYS class. I’m still amazed by the fact that a semester is almost gone. I feel like it has been so fast, its like if it was yesterday when I arrived and first stepped Baruch. This first semester I have learnt so many things, and I know there is much more coming for what is left for me to graduate.

Weekly reflection

This week FYS class was different from the ones before. We wen´t to a lecture hall which is bigger than the classroom we usually go to. There was a woman speaking about things you can do at Baruch that I didn´t know you could. She talked about internships and writing a resume, which was quite interesting because I finally learn what an “internship” is actually about.  I found out that there are so many different departments in which I can go and ask for help. In conclusion I feel like that class was what I needed before ending my first semester in college.

Weekly reflection

During this week FYS class everyone presented their monologues. Each talked about something that they wanted to talk about. Some people talk about their lives, which I found interesting since almost everyone had a different background and story to share.

Weekly reflection

Days are passing so fast that I don’t know what to feel about it. I still remember as if it was yesterday the first day I stepped Baruch, and now I’m already half way done with one semester. The weather is getting colder and rainy which it not really that nice. Recently I’ve been having several exams in one week, and to think that final exams are soon makes me so nervous.

Weekly reflection

Last class we had 5 minutes to write something about oneself, after finish writing we had to present what we had written down. Each person had about 1 minute to speak. In overall I think this is a good practice for future presentations because once you get comfortable speaking in public then you can achieve better intonation and wont be afraid anymore.

Enrichment #2

For this enrichment assignment I chose to attend to a Baruch Women Volleyball match this Saturday, October 12. The match supposedly started at 10:00 AM, which I really don’t know  because I arrived late. The atmosphere was pretty quiet which really shocked me. I really thought there were going to be more people watching, to my surprise there were only few people watching. The Baruch team played very good because they had a good sportsmanship, despite the errors that their teammates made nobody would be mad or blaming on anyone. They won all sets, which was nice. Although there was a very intense moment when the team let go a bit, the away team started to catch them up, but in the end they got realized their mistakes and got serious about it again and won.

All the spikes were perfectly smacked, since they all passed the net and were points. The defense was also very good because they managed to work together as a team and their communication was also one of the main key to their win. Their serving were amazingly good since most if not all would hit the end lines, this will confuse the other team by making them think it will be out, but in reality it would land just in the tip of the line and make it their point.  It was very obvious that the Baruch team was way much stronger and better prepared than the team of Lehman College.

I really wanted to go to one of their matches since I really wanted to join the volleyball team, but I didn’t apply for a position at the beginning of the semester because I wasn’t in the country for tryouts. Maybe next year i’m going join the team.

Weekly reflection

This week I went out with my brother to buy winter coats. I went my brother because he has been longer here in New York than I have and know where to go and find better brands. Now that I go to the same college as my brother everything is easier because there are so many thing I can depend on him. This has made my homesickness slightly better, although I really miss my parents and my little sister so much.

Weekly reflection

Last week I had so many days off, which was pretty good, but also very bad at the same time. I had two exams which made me very nervous and scared. Both o the exams were breath taking, I felt like they were very hard. My college experience has been very good so far since all the classes are going well and I feel like I’m actually learning something. Days are passing by so fast that I haven’t still realized that already half of the semester has passed. This is so scary.
