For the final enrichment workshop I attended the Diwali celebration at Baruch. Personally I do not celebrate the holiday but I do have a lot of friends that do and never had any type of understanding of what the holiday means or represents. I was on my way out of school but saw one of my mutual friends Instagram stories that there was a Diwali celebration so I decided to go. I was able to try some different food that I have never had before, see a different type of cultural clothing, different music and much more. Essentially Diwali is a celebration of lights and it signifies the celebration of good over evil as well as to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). Going to this gave me a new understanding and new respect for the Hindu religion and the holiday Diwali. I hope to attend much more events like this as it is a very fun and social way of gaining knowledge.

After seeing many other people visit and talk about the STARR Career Center, I decided to give it a visit myself. I had an advisor go over my resume and make some changes to it in order to make it more professional. We also had a conversation about the business communications major which is my major but I had a lack of knowledge on it or the career paths that would be possible to take under this major. I got information on the different routes I can take and also the different types of programs that are provided by the STARR Career Center which I will definitely be utilizing along my career at Baruch College. In such a big school it is easy to feel isolated and that you are on your own but going to the STARR Career Center was very comforting and I will soon go back.

Enrichment Workshop MET

I’ve always heard of the Met Museum but I’ve never actually been there until this week. It was actually a pleasant experience overall. Even just entering the Met, seeing all the works of arts that are in different sections is mind blowing. I decided to the Greek and Roman Art exhibition Because I’ve always been interested about the Greek gods and how they were. I saw a lot of statues but even more pictures specifically on vases. I saw one vase that stood out to me and it showed a Greek god dragging a bull by the horns. After reading the little description about it, I did a little more research on my phone and realized that the bull was related to the Minotaur , the half man half bull monster that destroyed people. Overall the museum was actually enjoyable, I would highly recommend it even if it’s not for a class assignment. Also I didn’t have to pay anything upon entering the exhibitions since I’m a CUNY student which was a bonus.
