FYS Enrichment Workshop #1: Academic

I decided to go to the Brooklyn Art Museum on 200 Eastern Parkway. The museum was close by so I decided to check it out. Though I was already lost the moment I left the train and my google maps was bugging out. At one point It was telling me to jump a fence and walk through a building. Eventually I reached

The second floor was closed and I didn’t find the 4th floor interesting so I mainly stayed on the 1st 3rd and 5th floors. I saw mummies, paintings, sculptures, and many different artifacts. The first floor was mainly paintings so I took a few pictures there, and the 3rd floor, I had mostly spent my time in the Egyptian area. On the fifth floor I saw many old paintings and artifacts. My favorite exhibit was the one of the “Book of the Dead” on the 3rd floor. The book consists of a number of magic spells intended to assist a dead person’s journey through the Duat, or underworld, and into the afterlife. There were many other interesting exhibits including Canopic Jars, a painting of Niagara Falls, and a whale sculpture. There were many smaller interesting pieces, such as an Egyptian mask and knife, along with Costa Rican amulets made of gold. History is filled with many weird and interesting things. I dislike history but love the artifacts and remains of what the past has left behind. They were many murals of Egyptian kings which were interesting to see. Coming here makes me wish I didn’t lend out my camera since my phone camera sucks.

After about 1-2 hours, I left the museum and decided to head home. It was a fun and memorable trip that I would not mind going back to. I highly recommend visiting this museum in the future.
