Blog 5

Okay, I made and posted mine within like 15-20 min because I was on a big time crunch, and it was really surface-level appreciation of everybody’s material. Almost everyone wrote the full amount, and I somehow swayed through the word limit till Seth made it 250, which sucks. I read a few others, and people really took the time out to show respect to all the creators over here, with some even shouting me out. Everyone deserved a lot more than what I gave, so here’s an edit of the original blog.

Jacky. Legendary. It was such a quick yet immersive experience, and his choice of gifs really captured the theme and plot he was trying to portray. It seems like a lot of other people saw this as well, because I read a lot of shout outs so far for him. His creative style is one that reminds me of what I tried to do with my trailer, and his aesthetic choices are all ones that I can understand and vibe with.

Luis. Bro, the concept in general was cool on it’s own, but he was actually able to solidify that “trailer” feeling with his beginning choice of words. In a world…. where Luis’s film is actually made, the trailer would be something that would definitely get me to watch it. It explores the anxiety and trouble people have with making choices about their future, and expresses it in a way where many have thought about doing, including me.

Ikra. Damn. This had a completely different feeling from every other trailer. It was unique, well made, well paced, and as a self-proclaimed horror movie professional, it really evoked that feeling of mysteriousness and curiosity that you get when waiting for the next moment. There was good work put it into finding the choices of sound, theme, imagery, etc. and I really respect that.

Tasnuba. Late or not, this was still really well made. I can see why it might have needed some extra time, because it actually feels like a professional trailer in many ways. Although she isn’t the only one who focused on the issue of Black lives in America, it felt like a unique visual peek into what life is like for those who are consistently discriminated against by people, the media, and the overall system.

Jason. Complete heat. First and foremost it felt like a trailer, which is really important to capture, and I know I use it a lot as a compliment but it’s because that isn’t something that everyone was able to really achieve. His aesthetic choices really made his theme pop and feel almost tangible, and the range of flashing lights and colors helped keep interest all throughout. Since it’ll be out in 2045, Imma be expecting some Oscar level performances. Stay fire.

In terms of what reading each was like, I didn’t go in-depth on every single one, but I was able to get an understanding of where each video came from and what it was supposed to mean. Like I mentioned in the original blog, in terms of actual content and detail, i feel like everyone’s work was far above mine. I really respect the time that was taken out to actually map out what each person’s trailer was supposed to portray, where the inspirations and ideas came from, and why they made it the way they did. Although I know there’s a lot I could have worked on for my assignment and video, everyone’s shout-outs and comments made it feel like the effort I put in at least for the actual video was acknowledged, so that’s something I really appreciated. In short, y’all are amazing and hold a bunch of creative prowess that doesn’t take away from your compassion and ability to let others feel validated from just your comments alone. If anyone actually reads this, I’m happy I was in a class with you.
