On Friday, I went to Brookfield Place to view the ‘Canstruction’ exhibition. Canstruction is an art exhibition where various volunteers, youth groups, and contractors make different structures made entirely out of canned food. At the end of the art exhibition, all canned food would be donated to local hunger relief organizations. There were structures like Mario Characters, a lobster, a construction site and more.
My favorite Canstruction exhibitions were the “Lean on Me” and the “Yes and No” structures. For the Lean on Me structure, the formation of the cans made a knot or heart which highlights the artwork’s title. The Yes and No structure was very a unique structure because it was the
only 3D formation to the whole exhibition. If you
look at a certain angle, you will see the formation of the word YES and if you look at an opposite angle, you will see the formation of the word NO. I really admired the Canstruction exhibition because it embodies one’s creativity and willingness to help. It demonstrates how art can be used to create awareness and also prompt spectators like myself to donate. I also like that it was not showcased in a small private building but it showcased in a public area that was available to all people- a mall.
