“A few years ago I was suspended for three days from work because my children were still young and I had to take time off when they were sick. . . . They want people who keep quiet, squeal on one another, and are very good little robots. The fact that many have to take nerve pills before starting their day, and a week doesn’t go by that there aren’t two or three people who break down and cry, doesn’t mean a thing to them.“

in this quote, it shows that women didnt have any rights in workingplace, and according what she wrote on the newspaper, 90 percent of  the workers in her department were women ,but all the supervisors were men. as she said above, women were treated unfairly . she was suspended because she needed time to take care of her sick children. it is apprehensible thing in today’s society, however, at that time, she got suspended for three days. they wanted these feminine workers to work as robots which meant they didnt have freedom, didnt have break, didnt have rights that a worker should have. some of women cant give it no more, so they came up and tried to fight for their rights. when people grouped up, the power of them is marvellous.

“The law cannot do it for us. We must do it for ourselves. Women in this country must become revolutionaries. We must refuse to accept the old, the traditional roles and stereotypes…. We must replace the old, negative thoughts about our femininity with positive thoughts and positive action…”

this quote was said by Shirley Chisholm, a black congresswoman. this quote reflected that Shirley was kind disappointed to laws, because even the Equal Rights Amendent was passed by states, women still didnt really feel any changes on them.  they still cant do whatever they wanted to do, still were inferior to men. under the pressure of women being treated unequaly, Shirley decided to fight for themselves. Shirley thought that they need to take action on things rather than just speak out. action could change old, nagative thoughts and stereotypes quickly. they must do something to replace those old ideas and thoughts to bring out a new perspective of women.

Equal Rights For Women-Yes and No

“Women are not more moral than men. We are only uncorrupted by power. But we do not want to imitate men, to join this country as it is, and I think our very participation will change it. Perhaps women elected leaders—and there will be many of them—will not be so likely to dominate black people or yellow or men; anybody who looks different from us.”

in the early 70s, women couldn’t  appear in the society, they can only stay at home and take care anything at home without any rights or power. in that society, people thought that women were inclined to take care of home, kids and husband. they didnt have the ability to get into that complex and high-level society, they only wanted women were totally disconnected with outside world. in their mind, men is the one who needed to be in charge in everything.

as Gloria Steinem said above,  women are not more moral than meb, but only uncorrupted by power. what she meant is that she thought women and men are totally equal on morality, but the difference between them is that power can change a man easily, but women dont. she as a writer and editor in america at this moment, but she still had to face the legal and social discrimination because of her gender from the work to the living place. she thought one day their participation will change this situation that people will change their mind to women, just like they changed mind to black people ro anyone else. even though the society didnt really want these kinds of women to appear, women still need to step up and protest for their rights and position. and this is the time for women  to show the power to the society to prove that women can play an important role as much as men can.

the cruel truth of society

“Meanwhile, the government of the United States was behaving almost exactly as Karl Marx described a capitalist state: pretending neutrality to maintain order, but serving the interests of the rich. Not that the rich agreed among themselves; they had disputes over policies. But the purpose of the state was to settle upper-class disputes peacefully, control lower-class
rebellion, and adopt policies that would further the long-range stability of the system.”(Zinn 258).this quote describes that  the U.S.A. tried to follow themselves to Marxist ideas,  in reality, they fell into the mould of Marxist capitalism. the ways government treated to upper-classes and lower-classes are totally different because government needs to contrapose different tagets with different effective ways. a integrated  and well-organized policy will  promote the development of the society.
“The development of a factory-like system in the nineteenth-century schoolroom was not accidental (Zinn 263).”by Joel Spring. this quotes descirbes that the importance of the Industrial Revolution on society during this time. development of a factory is just like education in nineteenth century, it is indispensable, accelerate the development of industrials can effecially improve the ecnomy of  whole society. at that time, more and more inventions came out,  industrals played a more important role in the society. however, as the new inventions coming out, farmers could not monopolize their product, it also brings a little loss to them. and governement didnt treat those farmers fairly and completely.
i think that Zinn was trying to say that there were always something new and good products coming to the society, they must be benefits to people. however, government couldnt ignore the people who were affected negatively. some kind of inventions replaced people’ jobs. Zinn wanted government to treat all workers equally and fairly.

Civil Rights of Freedmen in Mississippi (1865)

“… All freedmen, free negroes, or mulattoes who do now and have herebefore lived and cohabited together as husband and wife shall be taken and held in law as legally married, and the issue shall be taken and held as legitimate for all purposes: that is shall not be lawful for any freedman, free negro, or mulatto to intermarry with any white person; nor for any white person to intermarry with any freedman, free negro, or mulatto: and any person who shall so intermarry, shall be deemed guilty or felony, and on conviction thereof shall be confined in the state penitentiary for life; and those shall be deemed freedmen, free negroes, and mulattoes who are of pure negro blood, and those descended from a negro to the third generation, inclusive, though one ancestor in each genration may have been a white person.”

when slaves were free after the civil war, they used to think that they would have their whole rights back. However, through this statement above, government didn’t look like that they were ready to accept those freedmen get into their life and society. The Black Codes still limited some rights of black people, espeacially in marriage. The statement explicated that the marriage rights for black people were discriminated, restricted and unfair. It determined that black people can legally get married or cohabited together, but only with black people. it would be committed to a crime if black people get married or lived with white people, even would get into the jail. it’s kind of unfair because what freedom actually means  is a unlimit for any one who can do anything under the morals and laws. Limited the choice of marriage was an imcomplete and unfair provision to against the true meaning of freedom.

A tremendous change to Django

From the beginng of the movie, Django was considered as a slave. He had no idea where he was going to and what he was going to do, he didnt even know what his future looked like untill he met a bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz, who was a old Germany.  He redeemed Django for 125 dollars, and decided to make a team with him to make more money for himself and for Django. During the hunting time, Django realized the importance of money which can push people do anything that they wanted to do. Money can also eliminate discrimination and earn respect. the only purpose that Django wanted to do is to rescue his wife from slavery.

in the scence that they went to buy Mandingos, when calvin asked one old Mandingo to have two more fights to make the 500 dollars worth. however the old Mandingo said to him that he couldnt fight any more, then calvin started to worry about the 500 dollars because he thought the Mandingo didnt make that value. and when Dr. schultz wanted to free him, Django interrupted it because they were here to pretend that they want to have a business with calvin which they wanted to buy Mandingos to have fights. Obviously, they couldnt buy a uesless Mandingo with sympathy. Django had money now, and he can save the person in front of him who had the same destiny as him, but he didnt, he knew that they couldnt make any mistake, otherwise they can’t get his wife back, even worse, they would die there. Django had the money and the plan, he kenw money was everything, money can get his wife out of the worse situation, money was pushing his mind ahead to save his wife. the whole scene determined that when a person knows the ultilization and importance of money in that society, they will never lose a chance to get what they want.
