Xingzhonghui established by Sun Yat-sen in Honolulu at 1894
When Chinese immigrants came to America, most of them still kept their own culture and wore as them in china with a queue to show their loyalty to the Manchu Qing emperor. However, the first Chinese revolutionary group, XinZhongHui was founded in Honolulu at 1894. One year later, This anti-Manchu fraternity start to rebel in canton. Unfortunately, this rebel was failed.
It’s kind of funny that the man in the first picture was wearing traditional Chinese clothing, while the people in the revolutionary groups were all wearing suits.
commenting back on what Yi Jun is saying, the nationalists were westernized unlike the traditional chinese outfits. This implies that they were the two struggling classes during the time.
The two images show the gap between different time eras. These Chinese immigrants adopted to the western styles and cultures from their traditional trend.
It is interesting to know that Chinese immigrants still wore the long pig-tail in the 1900s.
