International Business Club: Fall’24 Recap

The International Business Club was established two years ago by Baruch International Business students with a mission to empower students to pursue careers in the diverse spheres of international business while promoting cultural connectivity on a global scale. We introduced them in the first edition of the Globetrotter, and are excited to report a very successful Fall 2024 semester.

The first event of note was held during International Education Week in collaboration with the Weissman Center for International Business titled “Explore International Careers.” Justine Kharnak, an Associate Director at the Weissman Center, delivered a lecture at this event, introducing a range of international career paths to the enthusiastic students in attendance.

The Mitsui event is hosted by the Weissman Center for International Business. Given the club’s promotion efforts, this event consistently attracts a huge group of International Business students. One of the highlights was a talk led by Robert Aquilina on cross-cultural communication. You can read more about the Mitsui series in this article. We eagerly anticipate the 2025 Mitsui events, which present excellent learning opportunities for IB students.

The third event was a tour of Eataly’s flagship store in Flatiron, led by the Director of Operations, Enrico Prodi. Following a Mitsui talk by Enrico, Briana Carchi, the President of the IB club, reached out to him to initiate a collaboration. Briana commented: ‘After learning about the brilliant business model presented by Mr. Prodi, I was inspired to build a professional relationship with Eataly to offer club members valuable opportunities and insights into the operations of a successful international business like Eataly’.

During the tour, Enrico introduced the students to Eataly’s “Eat-Shop-Learn” concept and guided them through various departments, answering questions about international trade, produce, and more. We spoke to Enrico about his experience collaborating with the club, and he mentioned that he was “very happy and excited to share his experiences” and was “impressed by the organization and enthusiasm of the university and the students”. Through the tour, Enrico was hoping to demonstrate “not just the business model of Eataly, but the values, and experience that Eataly hopes to provide its customers with”.

Another notable achievement of the club is the opportunity it now provides International Business students to pursue the NASBITE International Business certification free of cost, thanks to a collaboration with the Weissman Center for International Business. Students interested in this certification can now take the exam without the $395 fee.

Looking ahead to the Spring ’25 semester, the club plans to launch the “IB in NYC” initiative, aimed at exploring various facets of International Business in New York City through office visits and career talks with alumni.
