I gave a lot of thought to which problem / solution I aimed to discuss. In developing my idea, I identified the “problem” from reflecting on a series of issues I faced, and currently do, when beginning my collegiate experience at Baruch.
PROBLEMĀ
To give a little background information about myself – I work in music management as a manager to an up-and-coming singer / songwriter. The musician that I manage is a college student as well and she has expressed to me how hard it is for fellow college musicians to be discovered. This prompted me to ask myself “what tools does Baruch offer to make discovering talent and better yet, connecting talent with managers feasible”. I don’t think there are any resources that do this in particular.
SOLUTION
Thus, if every college campus had an app / platform where musicians, managers, label execs, etc. could connect, then it would allow for more talent to be discovered. Of course, social media is a powerful platform to form these kinds of relationships as well; however, college students don’t always have as much free time to A. Be active on social media and B. Search for the people they aim to connect with. Furthermore, many college musicians might not know where to begin when trying to connect with entertainment professionals. It is overwhelming and hard to get the attention of someone in the music industry without being introduced through a mutual friend. An app would allow anybody who is of interest in discovering or being discovered to connect. It would also be an outlet for musicians on campus to connect with one another. At a school like Baruch, primarily commuter, it can be very hard to form friendships and relationships. An app would be a good way for students to connect with one another through their shared interest of music. There is still a lot more information I would need to carve out to make this a successful solution.
I would love to get my fellow students thoughts on this – is this an app you might have an interest in using if it was offered at Baruch? Are there any suggestions you have for me to improve upon this idea? Thank you in advance.
