snowfall

I just love the way John Branch wrote snowfall. He was so descriptive that I could close my eyes and envision everything he’s saying. It’s almost like you’re not even reading an article it’s like reading this great book that sucks you in and you just want more. I also enjoyed that while Branch is explaining what happened to Elyse you have the chance to click on the short clip of Elyse explaining her own experience during the avalanche. I liked the placement of the videos and photos because instead of being directly smack in the middle of the text and breaking it up they were to the side.

The multimedia aspect of the article was great because it didn’t take away from Branch’s writing but took it to another level. The interactive maps and video were so effective because not only do I have an image in my head of what these people look and sounds like but also to then actually see them through video was great. It made the article feel more human and not just some story. The interactive maps were great because you got to see the area and what happened a few days before the avalanche occurred. The images are so breath taking its unbelievable.

The part the struck me the most was the “It Was Just A Bad Dream”. One would hope that something this crazy would only be a dream and you wake up fine but that wasn’t thecae for Elyse. It’s just crazy to think that it didn’t occurred to her at first to make noise or scream and just hope that someone will come and find you.

I think a great type of story to be told using this format would be on what happened during hurricane Sandy. Another great story idea would be to do a spread on fashion week. You can focus on one or two designers, have a behind the scenes look and see what goes into creating one of these amazing shows.
