Personal Writing Statement

Hello! My name is Juliana Wilson. I am a transfer student, and this is my first semester at Baruch. The last English class I took was a comic book and poetry class. In this class, we composed poetry with fantastical themes and analyzed how media affects our perception of reality. I enjoyed this class, but I don’t think it helped me as a writer in terms of mechanics.

English has always been my favorite class, but I found a love for the language in my freshman year of high school. I had an incredible teacher, Dr. Rowes, who was a master of the subject. She instilled in me my passion for literature, and was the first person to teach me grammar. She helped me gain self-assurance in my writing that I never had before. As I am now a sophomore in college— I am beginning to lose that confidence in my writing. By taking this class, I am hoping to further develop my writing skills. I am mainly concerned with my grammar and organization.
