Antoinette is the novel’s main character and the narrator for Part One of the story, living in the island of Jamaica. She introduces herself and the characters around her that include her stepmother Annette and her servant Christophine, her father Alexander Cosway, brother Pierre and neighbor Mr. Lutrell. As the story progresses, she goes on to marry a man named Rochester with whom she moves to England. Her character is viewed by many as being Bertha from Charlotte Bronte’s novel Jane Eyre.
