I just saw one of the most disturbing video in my life. This video made me wonder why do we feel a need to express everything. The technology today it is amazing we are able to stay connected and share our ideas with others. We are able to express ourselves with no limits because, on the internet there are no rules/laws telling us what we can and cannot talk about. This is a luxury and I think that some people abuse it. For example the video that I just watched. It should definitely not be something that should not be shared with others. It is disturbing and it does not enrich us in anyway. There are thoughts that should not be said but are said through the internet. For example I remember a few years back a college student posted a video about racial stereotypes and got expelled from school and another student posted a racial video and got expelled also. Yes sometimes the racial jokes are funny but at the same time it can be very offensive to some people. Even if it is not something disturbing or offensive there are people that post about everything. It seems like with the internet people mindlessly say these thoughts aloud. And this still happens today, I don’t think that the internet should be censored but I think that people are abusing the internet when they should be more careful. Because I remember when I was applying for college my teachers told me make sure you don’t have any bad pictures on Facebook because colleges might look you up and companies today might do that as well. Just because you can doesn’t mean you have to.
I absolutely agree with you on the things which are shared on the internet. I am proud to say I grew up when the internet was still new, I remember being in high school and getting my first “hotmail” account and using messenger when everyone knew messenger was only on MSN.
I think of myself as pretty open-minded but I’m honestly flabbergasted by some of the things I come across on YouTube and other such sites. I use FB and Hi5 and the postings I sometimes see are incredible. How do people put all of their personal business, their no-one-needs-to-know-this, WTMI stuff out there for the world to see without thinking of the kinds of people (colleagues, teachers, neighbors, kids, kids friends etc) who can potentially see their postings?
I think people out there need to think about what they post, stop and think before hitting that publish/post button. The internet is available for everyone without much if any censorship, which is why as users we should really censor ourselves by thinking about how others might receive/perceive our posts.
I absolutely agree with everything that you’ve said in your post. Many people are vlogging now a days, and a lot of them seem to believe that it’s okay to make a video about absolutely anything. I don’t think a lot of people understand that, just because you have the power to create content that can be shared on the web mean that you should share everything. I think that the internet should be censored in some ways but it’s difficult to determine the guidelines in which it should be. I understand the whole free of speech thing, but there are exceptions to everything- like the video that you mentioned about the racial jokes. Its sad to see that something so great- the internet, be abused by people who believe that it’s in the palm of their hands and that they are able and should use in without thinking things through fully.
