On March 25 popular internet social website Facebook announced that it was buying Oculus the manufacturer of a publicly unreleased but apparently highly anticipated device called the “Oculus Rift.” The device would allow users to completely immerse themselves in a game and early adopters and beta-testers are spreading the word and singing its praises.
With the internet and social media often getting “flak” for encouraging obesity, causing people to cut themselves off from the world, and a host of other “evils” what do you think of this new technology and how it will or will not affect society?
I believe that there are many problems such as physical, psychological issues… Among them, I want to explain Physical effects of virtual reality. One of the main problems with virtual reality is motion sickness. It is not unknown for people to suffer from nausea after spending a period of time in a virtual environment which is due to the effects the shift in perception has on balance. Our balance is affected by changes in the inner ear which results in feeling of nausea often experienced by people when travelling on a ship or some other form of transport.
I feel as if there are such negative stigmas towards video games especially violent ones. I believe this type of technology would be implemented with every day things perhaps even in medicine or therapy. Video game playing gives a person a sense of release from the real world and ofcourse anything in excess is never a good thing. So to the future gamers of this console i urge them not to fall deep within there own universe closed off to others but to find a center balance between stress releasing game play and real life.
I think this product is great. I believe its going to be used in many other aspects not only gaming but possibly some other type of medical or health use. Im actually surprised it took them this long to get this idea going because virtual reality has been around for years. I’m excited to use this product when it comes out.
